Support Worker Supported Living

Job Purpose
To provide consistent, high-quality support for young people aged 16–17 within Ofsted-
regulated supported living settings.
The role focuses on safeguarding, promoting independence, and preparing young people for adulthood, in line with statutory guidance and local authority care plans.
Key Responsibilities
1. Safeguarding & Welfare
• Ensure the safety and wellbeing of young people at all times.
• Follow safeguarding and child protection procedures, reporting concerns immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and professional boundaries in all interactions.
2. Support & Development
• Provide emotional, social, and practical support to young people.
• Promote independence through daily living skills (budgeting, cooking, self-care,
education, and employment preparation).
• Support engagement in education, training, and community activities.
• Act as a positive role model, demonstrating respect, inclusion, and empathy.
3. Behaviour & Risk Management
• Implement individual support and risk management plans.
• Apply de-escalation and positive behaviour support techniques.
• Respond appropriately to incidents such as going missing, exploitation, or substance
misuse, following policy and procedure.
4. Communication & Record Keeping
• Maintain accurate, timely records (daily logs, incident reports, safeguarding referrals).
• Communicate effectively with social workers, families, education providers, and other
professionals.
• Participate in supervision, team meetings, and training sessions.
5. Health & Safety
• Adhere to health and safety policies and risk assessments.
• Follow procedures for fire safety, first aid, lone working, and emergency response.
• Ensure that the living environment is safe, clean, and welcoming at all times.
Essential
• Experience of working with children or young people (preferably 16–17 age group).
• Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Ability to build positive and professional relationships with young people.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and sleep-ins.
• Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Desirable
• NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Health & Social Care (Children & Young People) or equivalent.
• Training in First Aid, Safeguarding, or Behaviour Management.
• Understanding of trauma-informed practice and adolescent development.
• Full UK driving licence.
