An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Sports Instructor to deliver sports/physical activity at The Wells Road Centre. The role includes working across all five wards – Mental Illness, Women’s Services, and Intellectual Disability wards – and will involve group and individual sessions. In line with the Equality Act 2010 there is a Genuine Occupational Requirement for a male applicant. The requirement is based on the grounds of decency, privacy, and the provision of personal services. Qualifications The successful candidate will have: Level 2 Fitness or Gym Instructor qualification, and qualifications in sport/exercise coaching GCSE/GCE or equivalent in Maths and English Knowledge of a range of sporting activities Experience working with individuals with mental health needs Good communication and negotiation skills Experience of group and individual planning and delivery Ability to work independently and adapt to changing circumstances Responsibilities Deliver gym and sports hall access and physical activity programmes for patients at The Wells Road Centre. Lead on provision of physical activity and safe gym access under the direction of ward Occupational Therapists. Develop pathways from hospital settings into mainstream physical activity and sporting opportunities. Educate and supervise unqualified staff in the use of hospital gym equipment and programmes devised by the Sports Instructor. Contribute to the overall activity and treatment programme delivered to service users within the Centre. Develop, deliver and evaluate the physical activity offered across all five wards. Support attendance to community‑based interventions with patients. Provide safe and quality access to the onsite gym and sports hall for patients. Collaborate with professionals within the service and the Trust to deliver therapeutic rapport and confidence building. Support clinical physical assessment in collaboration with Occupational Therapists and devise activity plans. Ensure appropriate use of gym and sports hall resources and maintain therapeutic and inclusive environments. Other Information Applicants will be required to pay for a DBS check; the cost will be deducted from salary over the first two months of employment.
