Backup & Storage Engineer Are you a proactive Backup & Storage Engineer looking to take ownership of a critical technology environment? This is an excellent opportunity to join a large, complex organisation where you’ll play a key role in ensuring the resilience, availability, and performance of enterprise‑scale backup infrastructure. Ongoing training, development and progression will be offered. The Role You’ll be responsible for both the proactive and reactive management of backup services across more than 200 servers. Working closely with technical teams, you’ll ensure issues are resolved quickly, systems remain robust, and service levels are consistently met. This role requires strong communication skills, a collaborative attitude, and the ability to work independently when needed. Key Responsibilities Daily monitoring and validation of backup operations across multiple platforms. Investigating and resolving backup failures and related issues. Producing and reviewing daily backup reports, addressing failures promptly. Applying ITIL practices including Incident, Problem and Change Management. Collaborating with colleagues and cross‑functional teams to resolve incidents. Conducting Root Cause Analysis and implementing long‑term solutions. Logging and managing vendor hardware support calls. Proactive maintenance of backup and storage infrastructure. Supporting backup strategy development aligned with business needs. Documenting and maintaining backup and recovery procedures. Hardware management and monitoring of storage/backup platforms. Skills & Experience Strong understanding of backup and recovery technologies. Experience with NetBackup (all versions up to 10.2). Knowledge of NetApp and Dell EMC storage solutions. Basic knowledge of Windows, Red Hat Linux, Solaris, or VMS (desirable, not essential). Ability to quickly learn new technologies and adopt automation frameworks. Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify workarounds. A collaborative team player with a strong sense of ownership. DV clearance is required for this position. Candidates must be able to pass Criminal Records and other background checks. The role involves shift work. On‑site presence required at Luton.
