Chief Accountant (Temporary) Location: West MidlandsContract: Temporary (6-months initial)Rate: £650.00 per day umbrella // £571.72 per day PAYE inclusive // £510.15 per day PAYE exclusiveStart Date: ASAP*Hybrid Working* Service Care Solutions are currently recruiting on behalf of a Local Authority in the West Midlands for a Chief Accountant to join the team on an interim basis. This is a key leadership role within the Finance and Corporate Resources Directorate, reporting to the Assistant Director of Finance and Customer Services. Key Responsibilities Lead the Business Support and Technical Accounts teams, including Treasury Management Deliver robust year‑end processes and produce the Statement of Accounts for two councils Manage the Balance Sheet and Fixed Asset Register for the Authority Oversee revenue and capital budgets, coding structures, and ledger controls Liaise with external auditors and ensure compliance with IFRS and statutory deadlines Provide strategic financial advice to senior stakeholders Candidate Criteria CCAB/CIMA Qualified Accountant with extensive experience Proven track record within Local Government Finance, specifically year‑end and treasury management Experienced in overseeing budget work and managing balance sheets, fixed assets, etc. Confident managing teams and complex financial systems Great communication skills with the ability to work well on own initiative where required Service Care Solutions also offers a £250 referral bonus So, if you know of anyone who would be perfect for this position and they are placed into work, you will receive £250 for the referral once their probationary period has been completed.
