OverviewSafety Officer, 2nd Shift – Student Activities Board Position details: 2:00pm to 12:00am, rotating two week schedule. Campus: Main Campus (Grantham). Full-time, non-exempt. Position Details FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Position Type: Staff Employee Group: Staff Time Status: Full-Time Time Category: Full Time (1560-2080 hours) Annual Hours: 2080 Hours per Week: 40 Work Dates: July 1 – June 30 Position Description Position Summary: A community-focused position responsible for helping to foster and safeguard a climate conducive to learning and working. The purpose of this position is to provide security and protective services to the campus, and to cultivate positive relationships with the community at large. Education & Certifications Education Required: High School Diploma or equivalent Knowledge/Certifications Required: Intermediate computer skills – ability to learn campus software and Microsoft Office within first 30 days of employment First Aid/CPR/AED – must be certified within first 6 months of employment. Training provided by Messiah University. Handcuffing/OC Spray Certification – must be certified in first year of employment. Training provided by Messiah University. Education Preferred Bachelor’s degree Experience Experience Required: None Experience Preferred: 2 years of security, safety, or human services employment; prior experience in a higher education setting. Skills & Characteristics Exemplary interpersonal and human relations skills Ability to demonstrate respect for others and build trust across diverse backgrounds Experience interfacing with traditional aged university students Service orientation Ability to manage conflict and work cooperatively with the campus community Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks Strong work ethic, integrity, and confidentiality Special Working Conditions Must be able to walk, stand for extended periods, push/pull, stoop, lift up to 40 lbs, and endure various weather conditions. Willingness to work different shifts, weekends, holidays, and some mandatory overtime for special events. Hepatitis B immunization may be required or documented. Position is essential; employees must report to work as scheduled in emergencies. Driving Requirements Operation of Messiah University-owned or leased vehicle is required. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and comply with the Fleet Vehicle Use Policy. Duties Essential Employee – Primary Duties Provide security and protective services oversight to campus facilities. Act as a resource to students, employees, and campus visitors. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of parking and permit regulations; enforce as necessary. Conduct active traffic management to ensure compliance with PA vehicle code. Respond to, investigate, and document crimes on campus. Maintain security patrols via foot, bike, and vehicle. Respond to and manage campus emergencies; first responder for medical calls. Conduct safety escorts for campus community members. Act as liaison with outside law enforcement and community organizations. Maintain consistent and reliable attendance. Secondary Duties Testify at PA Court of Common Pleas, District Justice, and campus hearings. Perform dispatch services when necessary. Conduct and assist in fire drills. Other duties as assigned.
