Academic Writing and Study Skills Lecturer Location: Birmingham (On‑Site) Salary: £51,000 Contract: Full‑Time, Permanent (40 hours per week) Department: Academic/Bath Spa University (BSU), University of Suffolk (UoS), Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU), Oxford Brooks University (OBU) and/or Pearson partnerships About the Role We are seeking full‑time Study Skills Lecturers who will work with subject lecturers to develop and teach study skills within the curriculum across a range of HE programmes from Foundation to Masters’ Level as part of our BSU, UoS and OBU partnerships. This includes improving English language and numeracy, organisational and presentation skills, digital literacy and basic IT skills, reading, writing and higher order research skills. Due to our delivery model, flexibility to teach during weekdays, evenings and at weekends is required. Key Responsibilities Designing and documenting bespoke courses, digital resources, workshop plans and individual schemes of work to develop study skills in the curricula. Delivering and evaluating teaching and identifying areas for potential improvement to enhance the quality of teaching, learning and overall student experience in accordance with the GBS’s Learning and Teaching strategy. Providing feedback on individual and class progress in their understanding of academic writing and other relevant study skills. Delivering tutorial consultations with students, offering constructive feedback, explaining assessment criteria gaps and suggesting improvements. Recording details from appointments for statistical, evaluation and quality purposes, and referring students to other services as appropriate. Engaging with VLE and research resources to facilitate students’ learning through online resources and activities. Contributing to GBS quality assurance systems and processes. Qualifications Hold a Master’s degree in a relevant subject area (PhD desirable). Previous UK HE lecturing experience in the broader subject area. Successful track record of teaching adult learners from diverse backgrounds on HE programmes. Proven experience of providing individual and group study skills support responding to identified learning needs. Willingness to lead a specific area of literacy development (e.g., reading, writing, critical thinking, numeracy, digital skills, research skills, project and dissertation support, peer‑assisted learning). High level of digital literacy and advanced communication skills. Desirable Expertise in digital educational resources development, course design and curriculum development. DELTA qualification. Postgraduate Certificate of Academic Practice or equivalent teaching qualification (or commitment to enrol on a teaching programme during the probationary period and complete within three years) or Fellowship of HEA (or international equivalent).
