Join Go Construct as a Welding Fabricator. Responsibilities Carry out gas metal arc welding (GMAW) to manufacture components Cut materials to required shapes, checking dimensions and thicknesses Weld or join metal and other materials into a wide range of structures Follow engineering plans, drawings and instructions Use computer programmes to design structures Operate tools, machinery and welding equipment Inspect and test welds with precision measuring instruments Dismantle metal structures Clean tools, equipment and work areas Wear safety clothing and use protective equipment Work on a construction site or in a workshop Career Path You could become a welding fabricator through a college course, apprenticeship or on‑the‑job training. College courses may include a Level 2 Award in Welding Skills, a Level 3 Diploma in Fabrication and Welding Engineering, and similar programmes. Apprenticeships are open to anyone over 16 and can be combined with on‑the‑job experience. Qualifications and Skills Level 2 NVQ in Fabrication and Welding Level 2 Structural Steelwork Fabricator Apprenticeship Level 5 Apprenticeship in Fabrication and Welding Attention to detail Knowledge of engineering and technology Manual dexterity li>Basic maths and design skills Salary Newly trained welding fabricators can start at £26,000 Experienced fabricators can earn up to £55,000* Locations: Huntingdon, Peterborough (United Kingdom).
