Diagnostic Radiographer The closing date is 16 December 2025 The X‑ray department at Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust invites motivated radiographers to join a highly skilled and friendly team. We provide exceptional radiographic standards for our Musculoskeletal Radiologists, Orthopaedic Surgeons and specialised bone tumour team. About the Department Our department is an integral part of the hospital service, fully equipped with all modalities. We aim to deliver world‑class patient care and value friendly, caring, excellence, professional and respectful work. Job Responsibilities Perform plain film radiography, theatre fluoroscopy, mobiles and interventional procedures, and rotate through the MRI and CT suite where appropriate. Maintain a self‑directed workload, planning and prioritising according to clinical need without supervision. Coordinate in‑patient workload with portering staff, nurse escorts and doctors, adjusting plans for personnel unavailability or unforeseen circumstances. Adjust out‑patient load when clinic demand exceeds expectations. Lead on radiation protection in theatre, advising team members, ensuring adequate lead coats and that pregnant staff leave the area. Supervise students, assistants and nursing staff; support teaching during placement. Be familiar with all X‑ray equipment, maintain accurate equipment records, and report faults to the Superintendent or deputy. Perform daily, weekly and monthly equipment tests for quality assurance and monitor results in the system. Maintain patient confidentiality and confidentiality of records. Engage in continuing professional development, research projects and audit to improve services. Adapt techniques for patient flexibility and comfort, especially for patients with disabilities, pathologies or spinal cord injury. Advisethe patient on radiation dose and effects, and provide reassurance, persuasion and negotiation as needed. Ensure smooth handover of responsibilities when moving on. Monitor and maintain stock in own area. Comply with IR(ER) guidelines, apply ALARA principles, and use IR(ME)R procedures. Ensure all staff uphold the principles of patient confidentiality. Qualifications / Training BSc in Diagnostic Radiography and Medical Imaging or DCR equivalent. Evidence of continuous personal and professional development. Experience Experience at Radiography grade. Experience working in an NHS hospital. Experience with specialist orthopaedic procedures and fluoroscopy. Experience of theatre radiography with an interest in orthopaedics. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to respond to challenging situations and think forward‑looking. Creative problem‑solving skills. Experience manoeuvring equipment within sterile environments. Capacity to manage own workload. Ability to build working relationships quickly and deliver high standards of service. Work seamlessly with surgeons and visualise resultant images. Supervise radiography students and HCAs. Commitment to clinical governance and quality. Knowledge Produce high‑quality diagnostic images with attention to detail and accuracy. Operate safely within controlled environments, being aware of radiation and dose (ALARP). Adapt technique to clinical condition and presentation. Participate in departmental quality assurance testing. Conform to IR(ER) at all times and protect patients from unnecessary radiation. Act as the operator, challenging unjustified requests. Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A disclosure application will be required to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB). Contract & Working Pattern Permanent contract – full time, part time hours and bank buy‑in will be considered. Working hours are from 8:30 am to 8:00 pm, seven days a week, with on‑call rota participation essential. Salary £31,049 to £37,796 a year pro‑rata per annum.
