Underwriter, Life Science and Clinical Trials Location: London, England, United Kingdom Posted 2 days ago The Life Science and Clinical Trials Underwriter will be responsible for underwriting business within the remit of the Life Science product line which sits within the International Casualty team in London. This role involves working alongside the Life Science Senior Underwriter to continue to develop Markel International’s Life Science proposition, including extending the distribution of the Clinical Trials platform. What you’ll be doing Work with senior underwriter, wider team, actuarial and other parts of the business to implement the underwriting strategy and monitor progress and developments. Champion continuous improvements and work with the team to improve end‑to‑end process and data. Confidently and positively demonstrate the field of our chosen underwriting approach. Contribute positively to the team’s underwriting strategy. Attend regular broker and client meetings and travel to represent Markel as required. Develop strong relationships with existing and new brokers. Apply appropriate underwriting practices including authority and guidelines control. Apply risk management practices including aggregations and guideline controls to limit Markel’s exposure. Provide underwriting support to overseas offices and handle referral approvals. Work with the Director of International Casualty and Senior Underwriter on portfolio management. Key Skills Detailed understanding of the life science and clinical trials insurance market. Strong numerical and analytical ability. Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Word and Excel. Excellent communication skills. Network of London and international distribution channels. Underwriting insights and risk acceptance. Portfolio management. Underwriting data analysis and claims service. Actuarial concepts. Wording comprehension and improvement knowledge.
