South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust Senior Infrastructure and Cloud Engineer The closing date is 15 December 2025 Job summary As a Senior Infrastructure and Cloud Engineer you will be responsible for the delivery of day‑to‑day services within the infrastructure team. As part of a small multi‑disciplined team you will be jointly responsible for technologies including Storage, Virtualised platforms, Security and AV services, Domain Services, Proxy, Windows and Linux systems, Containerised platforms (Docker and Azure AKS), Monitoring services and Public Cloud services (Office 365, Hybrid Email and Azure ARM), and backup services, maintaining operational efficiency and achieving above SLAs. SLAM has widely adopted cloud platforms, and the role will support the development of native cloud applications or refactor existing legacy systems for cloud using IAAS, SAAS, PAAS and Kubernetes systems. Main duties As a senior infrastructure and cloud technical expert, you will mentor and coach co‑workers, work closely with all elements of the ICT service to deliver the best outcomes and adopt a proactive approach to service delivery. You will also participate in the ICT Department Business Continuity team and the out‑of‑hours emergency support rota. Flexible working We offer flexible working. The role operates Monday to Friday, 8 am to 6 pm, providing a good work‑life balance. About us Service Delivery falls within the IT Service umbrella, following the ITIL standard of Service Management. You will be a senior technical influence in the Technical Services section, improving, maintaining and documenting new and existing ICT services. Locations Maudsley Hospital (headquarters) – located at Denmark Hill, zone 2, near train station and green spaces. St Pauls – within Bromley area, within 10 minutes of Bromley South, Bromley North and Shortlands stations. Bethlem Royal Hospital – set in over 200 acres of green space, with easy access to main roads and free parking. Job responsibilities Provide senior technical leadership for Identity Services, Storage, Virtualised platforms, Security and AV services, Domain Services, Proxy, Windows and Linux systems, Containerised platforms (Docker & Azure AKS), Monitoring services, Public Cloud services (Office 365, Hybrid Email, Azure ARM) and backup services. Administer BAU platform services, ensuring operational efficiency and SLA compliance. Monitor trust infrastructure services to ensure service levels are met. Design and implement infrastructure for new services with external support where required. Evaluate and recommend new and emerging technologies. Maintain and document services per Trust systems. Support and mentor team members for personal development and knowledge transfer. Perform additional activities as required to support infrastructure services. Adhere to departmental and Trust policies and procedures. Person Specification – Qualifications Degree level or equivalent experience. VCP or equivalent VMware experience. Relevant application services accreditations. MCSE: Cloud Platform and Infrastructure. ITIL Foundation Version 3. Person Specification – Knowledge and Experience Experience troubleshooting complex technology issues and root‑cause analysis. Hands‑on ICT server administration in an enterprise environment. Administration of Identity Services, Storage, Virtualised platforms, Security & AV services, Domain Services, Proxy, Windows & Linux systems, Containerised platforms (Docker & Azure AKS), Monitoring services and Public Cloud services (Office 365, Hybrid Email, Azure ARM) and backup services. Hardware configuration for server specifications. Common desktop software knowledge (Microsoft Office, antivirus, productivity suites). Group policy administration. IP networking and troubleshooting tools. Storage Infrastructure administration. Patch management solution deployment. Proxy services administration. Public Cloud platform administration and cloud‑native application design. DEVOPS environments support, continuous deployment and Kubernetes. Automation using Vrealize, PowerShell, JSON, ARM templates or Terraform. Person Specification – Desirable Experience administering Office 365 and Hybrid Exchange environments. Knowledge of Office 365 and Hybrid Exchange platforms. Maintenance of Linux server infrastructure. Administration of complex multi‑domain Active Directory (≈50 k objects, 100+ sites). Management of FSMO roles, DNS, DHCP in enterprise environments. SQL administration on‑premise and cloud. Backup technology administration. Person Specification – Personal Attributes Customer focused with good verbal communication skills. Excellent written English and time management. Self‑initiative and teamwork to meet SLA deadlines. Planning, scheduling, documenting and implementing changes via change control. Ability to work unsupervised. Logical, methodical, proactive and enthusiastic. Translate technical jargon for customers. Willingness to work occasional longer hours to meet deadlines.
