Trust Doctor in Respiratory Medicine (ST3+ Equivalent) Join to apply for the Trust Doctor in Respiratory Medicine (ST3+ Equivalent) role at Alfianni Online - Artist Netwerk These posts will be supervised and therefore suitable for any trainee who has acquired MRCP (UK) or equivalent (or is near to acquiring this), up to and including candidates post-CCT in Respiratory Medicine who wish to take advantage of the additional experience available at the Freeman Hospital. These posts are ideal for candidates looking towards ST4 application in Respiratory Medicine where there is a strong track record of success from previous post holders. There will be opportunities for the appointee to gain practical knowledge of the clinical management of all forms of advanced lung disease including the assessment and management of patients both pre and post lung transplant, pulmonary arterial hypertension, lung cancer, pleural disease, airways disease, respiratory failure, bronchiectasis and sleep medicine. Depending on the candidates prior experience and interests, there is opportunity to gain further experience in other areas of respiratory medicine including, but not confined to, those listed below: Management of patients with various forms of lung malignancy, pleural disease, airways disease and respiratory failure. Gain experience in the management of pulmonary vasculitis. Manage patients with bronchiectasis including understanding of the role of a specialist service. Manage patients referred to the Difficult Asthma Service. Gain further experience in Sleep Medicine as part of the Regional Sleep service. Deepen understanding of the interpretation and value of pulmonary function testing. Learn and manage the predictors for successful lung transplantation and appropriate risk assessment. Assess and manage referrals for a Respiratory specialist opinion from other specialist departments within the Freeman Hospital, namely Hepatology, Haematology, Oncology, Cardiology and Renal services. Complete quality improvement project Clinical: 2 posts are available One based in general respiratory medicine and one in transplant. One successful appointee will work mainly with all the Respiratory consultants based on Ward 29 at the Freeman Hospital which is the primary respiratory ward, and the other on ward 38 which is the primary transplant ward based at the Institute of Transplantation at the Freeman Hospital. On call duties cover both general respiratory and transplant. A clear timetable of duties will be provided, but there will be the opportunity to experience some of the other specialist services indicated above, depending on individual interest with the broad case-mix of patients that are referred to attend the Freeman hospital both regionally and nationally with many forms of advanced lung disease. The timetabling of core duties will be determined with Educational Supervisor and Head of Department. The department also provides a daily respiratory consultation and pleural service to other departments that present a unique opportunity for gaining experience with other regional services, namely Haematology, Bone marrow transplantation, renal and hepatology services, including renal and liver transplant patients, and a regional oncology service. Administrative: Responsibility for in-patient electronic records and discharge summaries for those patients admitted to the ward and communication with Specialist referring teams and General Practitioners regionally and nationally across the United Kingdom as necessary. Other: Participation in the weekly Regional ST Teaching Programme is encouraged, plus attending GIM monthly teaching. These posts includes on call cover which is for Freeman respiratory and transplant services out of hours on the middle grade rota alongside the respiratory specialist trainees; this is non-resident. On call duties include cover for new admissions and existing respiratory patients on ward 29, as well as respiratory and lung transplant patients based on outlying wards such as ward 25 and 30 in the Cardiothoracic block, and ward 38 based at the Institute of Transplantation. There is support from the Hospital at Night team overnight at Freeman. Flexibility: In line with the Trusts core value of placing patients at the heart of everything we do, we are developing our service provision to be responsive to the needs of our patients. To meet those needs some staff groups will be increasingly asked to work a more flexible work pattern so that they can offer services in the evening or weekend. As a result any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern or working in the future if required, including evening and weekend work.
