Main duties of the job Patient Interaction & Communication: Greeting patients: Providing a warm and professional welcome to patients and visitors. Answering phones: Handling incoming calls, taking messages, and directing calls to the appropriate staff. Scheduling appointments: Booking appointments for patients with doctors, nurses, or other healthcare professionals. Managing patient records: Ensuring patient information is accurate and up-to-date, including updating records and filing documents. Handling patient inquiries: Addressing patient questions and concerns, providing information about services, and assisting with forms. Administrative & Clerical Tasks: Managing patient records: Filing, retrieving, and maintaining both physical and electronic patient records. Processing prescriptions: Handling requests for repeat prescriptions and ensuring they are processed correctly. Managing correspondence: Handling incoming and outgoing mail, faxes, and other correspondence. Maintaining the reception area: Ensuring the reception area is clean and organized. Job description Job responsibilities Medical Receptionists perform a variety of duties in order to support the medical staff and its patients. They are the main liaisons of a medical facility, interacting with patients and medical staff. They act as mediators in communication. A Medical Receptionists duties and responsibilities also include: Answering phones and forwarding calls to the appropriate party, or taking down messages for forwarding later. Collecting patient information and providing it to relevant medical leads. Tracking availability and preparing patients before their appointments. Informing medical staff when a patient has arrived or is waiting. Ensuring that each patient has the proper documentation and sign-in sheets. Handling correspondence and file transfers. Checking on medical staff throughout the day. Person Specification Experience Essential A medical receptionist needs a combination of strong communication, organizational and technical skills, along with excellent customer service and interpersonal abilities. They should be reliable, adaptable and able to maintain confidentiality while working under pressure. Key qualities include a positive attitude, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. We are looking for a candidate with previous NHS experience, preferably in a GP surgery. Desirable Medical Terminology: Knowledge of basic medical terminology can be helpful in understanding patient needs and communicating with medical staff. Experience with Medical Software: Familiarity with specific practice management systems like SystmOne can be an advantage.
