Role As a Railway Security Supervisor you will provide a visible, reassuring presence across the rail network to promote passenger safety and reduce anti‑social behaviour. You will patrol stations and trains, engage with the public, support vulnerable passengers and work closely with rail staff and British Transport Police to deter crime, manage incidents and ensure a safe travel environment for all. Supervisors play a crucial role in organisations by managing teams, overseeing daily operations and ensuring a smooth workflow. Their responsibilities encompass a wide range, from managing employee performance and providing feedback to training new hires and resolving conflicts. Essentially, supervisors act as a bridge between employees and upper management, communicating organisational needs and ensuring that both employees and the organisation are successful. Leading by example, you will mentor and coach frontline employees, ensuring time keeping and professionalism is adhered to. Time is key to spend with your fellow RSOs conducting 1‑2‑1 performance reviews and ensuring that taskings and deployments are executed across the railway network. The Role Will Consist Of Ensuring colleague safety and providing a sense of assurance for all. Providing a smart, visible, proactive and engaging security presence. Effective conflict management, always taking control of incidents. Control access and egress, conducting security patrols to deter crime. Proactively and professionally engaging with the public. Being aware of hazards and incidents and responding appropriately. Providing guidance, information and directing customers as a first point of contact. Managing and following safety and security processes and procedures. Working as part of a team, building strong working relationships. Conducting 1‑2‑1s with frontline RSOs. Checking kit and equipment before deployments. Completing taskings and deployments. Incident report reviews. Mentoring and coaching. Shift allocations and approving holidays. Uniform auditing. Patrolling with frontline employees. Liaising with BTP and WMT representatives. Running day‑to‑day operations. Planning and originating. Attendance of major events to support. Out‑of‑hours sickness cover and response. Additional Standards & Expectations Awareness of safeguarding. Insight to railway byelaws. Suicide prevention. Patrolling the railway network onboard services and on stations. Customer services and engaging with members of the public. Communications with British Transport Police. Anti‑social behaviour (ASB). Supporting vulnerable persons. Awareness of railway safety. Radio communications. Security searches & counter‑terrorism. Conflict management skills. Elite security personnel. Full UK driver’s licence required. Door supervisor licence holder only. Clean, valid UK driving licence required for position. Previous Experience and Core Qualifications Previous experience in security is great, but if you’ve only recently got your SIA licence that’s fine. What’s just as important is your enthusiasm and willingness to learn. We will provide all the training and support you need to succeed. Managing and responding to incidents effectively while remaining calm under pressure. Conducting security patrols, managing access points, and deterring unauthorised activity.
