Locum Consultant in Respiratory Medicine The closing date is 14 December 2025 Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant in the Respiratory Medicine Department at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity for the successful, motivated and enthusiastic candidate to join the team based at Leighton Hospital in Crewe. This post is covering inpatients, outpatients, Bronchoscopy and EBUS and is for a fixed term period until 31.08.2026 due to Parental Leave. Main duties of the job The medical element of the Division consists of seven acute wards, which includes a Short Stay Unit, a fully equipped Coronary Care Unit, a dedicated Acute Stroke Unit and Stroke Rehabilitation ward and a Speciality Frailty Service. Furthermore, the Division also has an Acute Medical Unit, an Ambulatory Care Unit, a Planned Investigation Unit. A further 24 low dependency rehabilitation beds are available within Leighton Hospital. In addition the Emergency Department also resides within the Division. Non‑invasive ventilation is provided in the Emergency Department, the Respiratory ward and on the Critical Care Unit, as required. The Trust is an accredited Trauma Unit and is part of the North West Midlands and North Wales Trauma Network and works very closely with our nearest designated Trauma Centre at the Royal Stoke University Hospital. In addition, there are excellent links with the Royal Stoke University Hospital to provide hyper‑acute stroke care, early in‑patient angiography, coronary intervention and pacemaker implantation. The successful applicant must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a Licence to Practise. The applicant must also be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training in Respiratory Medicine. Person Specification Qualifications Full GMC Registration Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR or European Community Rights MB ChB/MBBS or equivalent MRCP Other postgraduate qualification e.g. MD, PhD Experience Extensive experience in Acute / Respiratory Medicine including bronchoscopy and the ability to undertake endobronchial biopsies Trained in EBUS Trained in thoracic ultrasound to level 2 standard Experience of running a respiratory sleep service Abiity Recognised ability to work within, and provide leadership to, the multidisciplinary team Excellent interpersonal skills Flexibility of approach Commitment to clinical risk management and implementation of clinical governance Effective team leader Audit and Research Relevant experience in clinical audit Relevant experience in research and evidence of publications Ability to develop evidence‑based practice Research leading to MD or PhD Teaching and Education Evidence to allow accreditation as a Consultant Clinical Supervisor for trainee doctors with the GMC Experience and interest in teaching both junior medical and non‑medical staff Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development and lifelong learning Commitment to teaching Membership of Society of Acute Medicine Evidence to allow accreditation as a Consultant Educational Supervisor for trainee doctors with the GMC Recognised teaching skills course Special interest in role development and staff training Membership of relevant medical associations/learned societies Post Graduate Certificate of education Other Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff at all levels of the organisation Full driving licence Meets professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice) Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
