Design Engineer - CATIA Join Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), as a Design Engineer focused on space propulsion sub‑systems and equipment. Overview Thales Alenia Space delivers high‑tech solutions across telecommunications, navigation, Earth Observation and orbital infrastructures. Your role will support the mechanical and thermal design of parts and assemblies for space projects, driving performance, cost and quality within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. Responsibilities Generate the mechanical and thermal designs of parts and assemblies needed for space propulsion sub‑systems and equipment. Prepare and update subsystem CAD models, reviewing materials through PDR, CDR, QR and other project life‑cycle milestones. Participate in design trade‑off activities and integrated product design, requirements management, interfaces management and customer needs analysis. Manage the tree structure of the product using PLM tools such as Enovia, ensuring drawing activities comply with project constraints. Generate 2‑D drawings, BoMs, manufacturing and assembly files, and interface definition documents. Assess new suppliers, materials, components, data, software and methods for spacecraft mechanical and thermal engineering. Check designs for completeness, tolerance build‑ups and assembly/integration sequences, conducting monthly design reviews with the programme team. Lead a small team of design engineers to deliver programme deliverables on time and within budget. Qualifications Good general knowledge of mechanical design and conception. Working knowledge of CATIA V5 and PLM software (Enovia preferred). Experience in Design for Manufacture principles and application to designs. Experience in BOM creation and engineering change processes. Knowledge of BS 8888 drawing standards and geometric tolerancing best practice. Soft skills in PowerPoint, Excel and other office tools. Experience in a multi‑discipline team environment with project pressures and dealing with customers, partners and suppliers interfaces. Experience in the space domain and familiarity with specific CAD modules such as sheetmetal, pipe routing, harnessing, ALM design, cinematics and composite panel design are advantageous.
