Clinical Site Nurse Practitioner – Ashford & St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Job Summary The post holder will provide senior nursing and managerial support, lead hospital at night coordination, manage emergency responses, oversee patient placement, support patient transfer and pathway optimisation, and provide Bronze response and escalation support. Main Duties of the Job Provide senior nursing support and clinical advice across the Trust, especially in out‑of‑hours shifts. Undertake advanced clinical interventions and support staff in clinical areas. Contribute to corporate nursing agendas and maintain competence. Manage site operations, including emergency/incident response coordination and liaison with multiple teams. Promote collaborative working relationships with multidisciplinary teams and participate in improvement initiatives. Oversee staff redeployment and performance management. Facilitate effective communication between nurse practitioners and site managers. Lead capacity management, including daily CAT meetings and patient pathway optimisation. Participate in staff education and training programs. Engage in clinical governance activities, including quality and risk management, infection control and incident investigation. Serve as the first point of contact for ward staff during out‑of‑hours. Undertake advanced clinical interventions and life‑support skills. Liaise closely with the Outreach Team for early identification and prevention of deterioration. Perform clinical procedures and supervise ward staff. Contribute to corporate nursing agendas and maintain clinical competence. Support the out‑of‑hours medical team (cannulation, venepuncture, verification of expected death). Management Responsibilities Manage site operations and coordinate emergency responses. Provide senior managerial support and advice to all areas. Coordinate the Trust’s response to emergencies and incidents. Liaise with on‑call teams and uphold communication standards. Facilitate staff redeployment and supervise bank/agency staff. Ensure shift leaders adhere to standards during out‑of‑hours. Act as a role model and demonstrate leadership skills. Collaborate with clinical site nurse practitioners for operational efficiency. Capacity Management Lead and support daily capacity meetings for effective bed utilisation. Maintain accurate bed state and monitor patient discharges. Ensure patient movement adheres to specialty ward configurations. Facilitate patient transfers and discharge processes. Support timely patient assessment and referrals. Monitor trigger factors for A&E and capacity escalation plans. Collect and analyse capacity data for audit purposes. Education Responsibilities Participate in staff teaching and create positive learning environments. Contribute to education and training programs for nursing and medical staff. Maintain an evidence‑based approach to practice and person‑centred care. Engage in nursing initiatives and continuing education. Take part in performance reviews and personal development. Clinical Governance Responsibilities Participate in quality and risk management initiatives. Adhere to infection control safety practices and support staff competencies. Ensure staff are supported and supervised for professional development. Identify and address own development needs and provide clinical supervision. Investigate and address incidents and complaints proactively. Engage in clinical benchmarking and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. Person Specification – Essential Qualifications NMC Registered Adult Nurse. Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a health‑related area. Mentorship or Practice Supervisor/Practice Assessor training. Person Specification – Desirable Qualifications MSc in Nurse Practitioner Course or working towards it. Current Advanced Life Support qualification. Person Specification – Essential Experience Significant post‑registration experience in an acute setting (A&E, acute areas, critical care). People management experience, especially in emergency or incident contexts. Experience in capacity and site management. Person Specification – Desirable Experience Experience initiating innovation in clinical practice. Experience with service development or improvement. Person Specification – Essential Skills Leadership and change management. Advanced clinical skills – patient assessment, clinical decision making. Excellent communication skills – verbal, written, negotiation. Person Specification – Desirable Skills IT skills – EPR systems (Cerner, EPIC), Microsoft Office. Patient Group Directions competency.
