We are inviting applications for a full‑time Consultant Haematologist to join our established team of nine consultants offering a full range of diagnostic and clinical haematology services. The post covers all areas of district general haematology practice, and a subspecialist interest (e.g. lymphoma, haemostasis/thrombosis) would be welcomed. Key Responsibilities Provide specialist haematology services, including diagnosis and treatment of inpatients and outpatients. Support clinical decision‑making for junior medical and nursing staff. Deliver on‑call support and remain contactable during out‑of‑hours periods. Liaise with other clinicians, hospital staff and general practitioners regarding haematological conditions. Share responsibility for diagnostic laboratory services, interpret results and advise clinicians on findings. Take a full role in undergraduate teaching and support postgraduate training. Lead or participate in clinical audits, GM&E and research projects, including recruitment to local clinical trials. Engage in continuous professional development (CME/CPD) and act as an educational supervisor when required. Person Specification Qualifications Full GMC registration and licence to practise. On Specialist Register via CCT or CESR‑CP (date within 6 months of interview) or equivalent. Higher qualification such as MRCP/MRCPath (Haematology). Desirable: higher degree teaching qualification, clinician research experience. Clinical Experience Evidence of recent experience caring for haematology patients to level 3. Desirable: subspecialty expertise or clear interest. Motivation & Attitude Self‑motivated team worker with strong communication skills. Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, under stress, and adapt to change. Honesty, reliability, enquiry and critical thinking. Patient‑centred caring attitude and effective communication with patients, relatives and GP’s. Desirable: willingness to take on additional professional responsibilities at local, regional and national levels. Research & Publications Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical practice and supervise junior staff in research. Desirable: peer‑reviewed publications or national conference presentations. Information Technology Basic IT skills: Word processing, literature searching. Desirable: understanding of medical information management systems. Management & Quality Demonstrated ability to work within multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, reliable service. Knowledge of clinical governance, audit and quality management. Desirable: attendance at management courses or database management skills. Teaching Willingness to teach all grades of hospital and professional staff; ability to deliver clinical and operative skills. Desirable: training in teaching methods and previous undergraduate teaching experience.
