Overview We are seeking a full‑time Spinal Specialist to support the existing consultants in the spinal surgery department at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) on a fixed‑term appointment of 12 months, renewable for an additional 12 months subject to satisfactory performance. The successful candidate will work within the spinal unit to support the service in delivering excellent patient care and outcomes, and to achieve targets in outpatients, inpatients, and waiting‑list reduction. The role includes participation in the spinal on‑call emergency rota. Responsibilities Participate in the spinal consultant on‑call rota (currently 1 in 8). Manage care of patients admitted under their supervision, including day‑case and elective patients. Provide comprehensive elective and emergency spinal service in partnership with consultants. Cover for colleagues during leave periods. Maintain continuity of patient care and proper functioning of the department. Attend weekly MDT meetings and contribute to the on‑call spinal surgical consultant rota. Travel between Bolsover Street and Stanmore sites as required. Plan flexible working sessions in collaboration with hand‑back policy to maximise patient treatment capacity. Qualifications Spinal fellowship trained. Fully registered with the GMC and on the GMC specialist register, or within 6 months of attaining specialist registration at the time of interview.
