Join to apply for the Principal Building Control Surveyor role at Somerset Council. What will I be doing? The day‑to‑day operational management of the Building Control Team. Supporting another Principal Building Control Surveyor and the Head of Building Control to ensure the service is running effectively. Having the autonomy of managing your own geographical area. Carrying out appraisals of Building Control applications to check for compliance with relevant regulations and legislation. Carrying out site inspections on all projects in your area, working with clients, designers and contractors. Supporting junior members of staff, providing knowledge and expertise on various project types. What kind of experience or qualifications do I need? You must be a Registered Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator, with a minimum Class 2 registration status, aiming for Class 3. Have experience in Building Control, with the ability to apply the relevant requirements and take necessary action. Have experience of managing staff, operational tasks, and all other management functions. Have a degree‑level qualification or chartered status with either CABE, RICS or CIOB. A supplement allowance of £7,500 per annum is linked to the Principal Building Control Surveyor, bringing the salary to £56,782 per annum. The allowance is time‑limited and will expire on 31/10/2028. All supplement allowances are reviewed 18 months from the original approval date and may be adjusted or withdrawn based on organisational need, role changes, or market conditions. If the role is re‑evaluated or the salary changes as a result of the Pay and Grading Review, the allowance may be reduced or cease entirely. If the salary changes due to the NJC Pay Award, the supplement allowance will be adjusted accordingly to maintain the intended pay differential.
