BESS Engineer

Astute's Renewable's Team is partnering with a leading renewable energy provider that offers full services across large-scale solar and battery energy storage, to recruit a BESS Engineer to provide O&M services across assets in Plymouth and surrounding areas.

Responsibilities and duties of the BESS Engineer role

Reporting to the Head of Technical you will:

Conduct pre-commissioning checks, system calibration, and functional testing of BESS units.
Perform hands-on electrical and mechanical work, including wiring, racking, and interconnection.
Configure, test, and troubleshoot BMS, EMS, and PCS components, resolving on-site electrical and control issues.
Carry out maintenance, performance monitoring, and diagnostics while ensuring compliance with safety protocols and manufacturer standards.
Maintain accurate site documentation and collaborate with contractors, OEM vendors, and project teams.
Support training and handover for operations and maintenance teams post-commissioning.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

A C&G/ NVQ Level 3 electrical qualification or equivalent.
C&G 2391-52 or equivalent
18th Edition wiring regulations.
HV AP qualification highly desirable.
Minimum of 2 years' hands-on experience with BESS or high-voltage electrical systems.
Familiarity with PCS (inverters), switchgear, SCADA, and both low- and high-voltage systems.

Personal skills

The BESS Engineer role would suit someone who is:

Safety-conscious and able to follow strict protocols in high-voltage environments.
Comfortable working on active construction sites or remote locations
