Job Description Do you want to make a lasting positive change to the environment? As a Senior Advisor in the UK BAT team you can. Large installations in the UK are required to use ‘Best Available Techniques’ (BAT) to reduce emissions to air, water and land. We’ve established a process for the definition of BAT within the UK. The regime will use the BAT concept principles of a transparent, collaborative, data‑led process that safeguards and builds on the current high levels of environmental protection. Central to this process will be the UK BAT Senior Advisor. Responsibilities Support the drafting of BAT Conclusions, liaise with Technical Working Groups and present a final document suitable for publication as a UK‑wide environmental standard for industry. Provide critical review of arguments and data, coordinate the work of technical authors and deliver strong project management. Use smart tools to stay connected, minimise travel, and support the implementation of inclusive incident management objectives within your development plan. Represent the UK BAT Team internally and externally, fostering a positive, inclusive culture within the Environment & Business Directorate. Qualifications Experience/skills Required At least 5 years working experience, with a solid understanding of environmental regulation across a variety of industrial sectors. In-depth knowledge of UK and EU industrial environmental legislation, including the IED and the Environmental Permitting Regulations. Proficiency in coordinating and reviewing the publication of technical documents. Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to plan, prioritise and organise tasks to ensure timely results. Capability to engage with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, actively encouraging consideration of diversity issues. Presents a credible case and explains benefits to the audience. Seeks a win‑win outcome and develops relationships with key influencers. Prepares concise, persuasive written arguments on complex issues. Competence 3 – Achieves Results Set and deliver high work standards, prioritise and organise tasks to meet clear goals. Regularly exceeds agreed goals. Perseveres when others may give up, achieving desired results. Anticipates forthcoming issues and adjusts actions accordingly. Competence 4 – Focuses on Efficiency, Innovation and Quality Lead projects that identify improvement opportunities and implement new methods while maintaining quality and accuracy. Takes responsibility for quality and timeliness of own work, admits errors and rectifies promptly. Demonstrates ongoing concern to improve performance and increase efficiency. Ensures data accuracy and timely delivery. Implements checks to maintain required accuracy. Actively seeks opportunities to maximise efficiency for self and team.
