Job Purpose The Laboratory Manager at Reclinker is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of experiments, equipment maintenance, and materials management. This role combines hands‑on laboratory work, data analysis, and strategic decision‑making to support research, development, and commercial activities. Responsibilities Plan, program, and oversee laboratory experiments in alignment with company objectives. Maintain, calibrate, and schedule annual servicing of all laboratory equipment. Manage inventory of materials, chemicals, and consumables; coordinate timely procurement of supplies. Ensure laboratory health and safety compliance, including creation and maintenance of COSHH documentation and risk assessments. Organise and oversee waste management and safe disposal of laboratory residues. Implement, update, and enforce laboratory protocols and standard operating procedures. Conduct laboratory testing, gather data, perform analysis, and prepare technical reports for internal teams. Provide technical support during commercial conversations, offering data‑driven insights for client projects. Take critical operational and experimental decisions based on experimental data and lab findings. Coordinate testing with third‑party laboratories and oversee external collaborations. Assist with periodic on‑site trials, providing technical guidance and support. Maintain overall housekeeping and laboratory organisation to ensure a safe and efficient working environment. Evaluate, recommend, and procure new laboratory equipment as needed. Manage workload for laboratory technicians. Communicate with the wider R&D and Operations teams. Trial plan development and trial support. Preparation/Collection and transportation of test specimens between operational sites, client sites and laboratories. Keep accurate and legible records of all works carried out, observations and results. Data entry, reporting and communication of results to relevant stakeholders. Environmental, Health & Safety Personal safety first, always. Contribute to CEC’s EHS culture to drive improvements. Requirements Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field. Knowledge and Experience Proven experience managing laboratory operations, including equipment, inventory, and H&S compliance. Strong knowledge of COSHH regulations, risk assessments, and laboratory safety standards. Experience with data analysis, experimental design, and reporting results. Experience working in the construction industry would be advantageous. Knowledge of construction materials and familiarity with industry practices. Experience in materials/concrete testing. Skills and Abilities Good organisational and decision‑making skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment. Experience coordinating with external labs and conducting on‑site trials is desirable. Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to present written information articulately and as appropriate for the intended audience. Comfortable in translating technical requirements into considered project plans. Accountable, confident and tenacious. Passionate, energetic, collaborative and empathetic. Consultative, open and honest in approach. Well‑developed problem‑solving skills. Proven success working in a fast‑paced environment. Organised with excellent attention to detail.
