Job Summary We are delighted to invite applications for a Specialty Doctor in Ophthalmology to join our dynamic, supportive and forward‑thinking team at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This role arises because of a vacancy in the ophthalmic department and is designed both to meet the needs of the department and to give the applicant a broad and varied exposure to most of the main ophthalmic subspecialties. The timetable is designed to provide opportunities for administration and SPA/teaching. The successful candidate would be expected to attend and partake in the department teaching session on Friday afternoons. This post offers excellent opportunities for clinical development, with broad exposure to a wide range of ophthalmic subspecialties including medical retina, glaucoma, cornea, paediatrics, and vitreoretinal disease. You'll work in a modern, well‑equipped department with access to cutting‑edge technology and a strong multidisciplinary team. Main Duties of the Job This is a Trust‑wide appointment, not limited to a specific hospital site. The successful candidate will join our established ophthalmology team in delivering high‑quality eye care to the population of Norfolk and Waveney. Their role will include managing patients in outpatient settings through a combination of face‑to‑face and virtual clinics, spanning a variety of ophthalmic sub‑specialties. Participation in emergency eye services is expected and will be scheduled as part of the departmental rota. There will also be opportunities to contribute to theatre sessions, with access to training and development. While reporting to the Service Director, the post‑holder will have the autonomy to make clinical decisions appropriate to their level of experience. Clinical duties will be undertaken across Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, Cromer District Hospital, and the Central Norwich Eye Clinic. One Supporting Professional Activity (SPA) session per week is included for administration and professional development. The post also offers access to regular ophthalmic teaching sessions.
