Lead Education & Training Pharmacy Technician - Clinical Services Job Summary We have an opportunity for a highly motivated, enthusiastic Lead Education and Training pharmacy technician to join our team and work alongside other Lead Education and Training technicians. You will provide leadership, management, and development opportunities to apprentices, pharmacy assistants, and pharmacy technicians, and work with the Education and Training Pharmacy team to develop and deliver our Education and Training Strategy. We are looking for an individual who is inspirational, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and who can develop staff within service needs, ensuring a high quality and safe pharmacy service. Essential qualifications include a recognised pharmacy technician qualification, registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council, an accuracy checking qualification, and completion of educational supervisor training with Health Education England. Details Band: 6 Salary: £38,682 to £46,580 a year, pro rata Contract: Permanent Working pattern: Full‑time Reference number: 413‑100115‑CNS‑AK Job locations: Pharmacy Clinical – E00920, Manchester, M20 4BX Job Responsibilities Education and Training Lead the development and implementation of an education and training framework for all technical staff within clinical pharmacy services. Support the Chief Clinical Pharmacy Technician in providing development pathways for pharmacy technicians, assistants, and trainees via in‑house and external programmes. Assist in developing and reviewing training packages with other lead technicians. Develop, monitor and integrate written policies and procedures for training and education. Implement new systems of working to improve service quality and efficiency. Support and oversee PTPTs and other trainees, ensuring timely progression through BTEC Level 3 Diploma and other qualifications. Act as the point of contact for all training providers and secure funding through HEE. Mentor, train, and supervise staff completing the Band 4 to 5 competency training programme. Attend Trust, regional and national training events, meeting the requirements of the trainee programmes. Collaborate with the Education and Training Pharmacy team to deliver the Education and Training Strategy and conduct a Learning Needs Analysis. Provide education and training support to nursing, medical staff, and other multi‑professional team members, including student teaching opportunities. Clinical Services Develop, implement, and monitor clinical pharmacy staff input across the four pharmacy services. Coordinate and manage all ward pharmacy technician, assistant, and PTPT activities to maintain service standards. Monitor professional work against local and national competency frameworks. Maintain designated clinical pharmacy technician roles and advocate patient‑centred care. Participate in internal and regional meetings, benchmarking, and audits. Engage in the MRHA drug recall process with the third‑party provider. General Build strong relationships with other lead technicians and support staff during absences. Investigate incidents and implement risk mitigation measures. Deputise for the Chief Clinical Pharmacy Technician. Report and manage medication errors in line with Trust policy. Use Microsoft Office and healthcare software such as SACT, EPMA, and scheduling systems. Attend training and development opportunities to maintain CPD. Adhere to COSHH regulations regarding cytotoxic and clinical trial materials. Contribute to and participate in clinical pharmacy audits and improvements. Work within weekend and bank holiday rotas as required. Managerial Responsibilities Oversee pharmacy technicians and clinical pharmacy assistants. Participate in recruitment, induction, and staff performance reviews. Manage sickness, absence, and personal development reviews according to Trust policies. Plan and support clinical service rosters, including weekend and bank holiday shifts. Approve annual leave requests for technical staff. Lead, direct, and mentor staff across all pharmacy roles. Coordinate safe, high‑quality medicines optimisation services. Act independently within the Medicines Practice Operational Policy framework. Contribute to service improvement initiatives and projects. Review duties and hours regularly in line with changing organisational practices.
