Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) Scheduler and Receptionist PLEASE NOTE: This post will be primarily based at Bolton Churchill Unit, BL4 0JR. The SACT and outpatient team at Bolton Churchill Unit require a scheduler and receptionist to work as part of our existing team to schedule patients receiving systemic anti‑cancer treatments. The post holder will be expected to work as part of a very busy team, spending time in outpatient clinics and covering reception. The post holder will need excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team, while managing their own workload. The role requires considerable computer work using several trust systems; knowledge of these information systems would be an advantage, although training will be provided. Key Responsibilities Book patients SACT treatment and outpatient appointments. Communicate with patients and relatives face‑to‑face and by phone, ensuring timely appointments. Support clinical teams with administrative duties. Meet appointment deadlines and targets. Maintain professionalism and courtesy at all times. Cover reception duties and work a variety of shifts, including bank holidays and Saturdays on rotation. Key Role Dimensions Communication & Relationship Skills Exchange information with patients and staff. Communicate complex information about chemotherapy appointment schedules. Handle patients who may be anxious, angry or upset. Maintain patient confidentiality. Analytical & Judgmental Skills Resolve issues such as cancellations or missing notes. Use own initiative to liaise with clinical staff for patient queries. Use patient information systems to assist staff and solve issues. Apply knowledge to code treatment appointments correctly. Planning & Organizational Skills Plan patient admissions, appointments, and discharges. Prepare clinic paperwork. Adjust clinic structure for unexpected patients. Use the iQemo scheduling system. Arrange cover for colleagues; have familiarity with systems across bases. Physical Skills Standard keyboard and PC skills; use fax machine and phone. Human Resources Provide induction support to new post holders. Demonstrate workplace routines. Contract & Salary • Band: 3 • Salary: £24,937 to £26,598 per annum, pro‑rata • Permanent contract • Part‑time working pattern • Work hours: 7.30 am–6 pm; varied shifts including bank holidays and Saturdays on rotation. Person Specification Essential Qualifications NVQ Level 3, equivalent qualification, or relevant experience. Essential Experience Administrative or clerical work with a customer‑facing dimension. Essential Skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Good telephone manner. Attention to detail. IT literate. Essential Knowledge Booking patient appointments and data recording systems. Essential Values Ability to demonstrate the organisational values and behaviours. Essential Other Problem‑solving skills. Ability to work unsupervised. Able to work under pressure. Desirable Qualifications Diploma or equivalent experience. ECDL or equivalent. Desirable Experience Experience of working within the National Health Service. Desirable Skills Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications. Flexible working hours. Ability to deal compassionately with distressing situations.
