About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Manager to lead a multi-discipline engineering design team. You will oversee all electrical design activities, ensure the quality and compliance of internal designs, and review third-party consultancy outputs. You will also have experience in custodial or secure facilities projects, along with a varied sector portfolio, ensuring designs meet strict security, safety, and regulatory requirements. The role is accountable for delivering technically robust designs in accordance with RIBA Stages 2-5 (Concept ? Developed ? Technical Design ? Construction Documentation).

Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the electrical design team, setting design standards, workflows, and quality benchmarks.
Review, validate, and approve third-party consultancy designs, ensuring compliance with project specifications, UK regulations, and internal quality standards.
Coordinate multi-discipline design packages, integrating electrical designs with mechanical, civil, and renewable energy teams.
Ensure designs adhere to RIBA Stage 2-5 processes, including concept, developed, technical design, and construction documentation.
Provide technical guidance on custodial and secure facilities projects, addressing security systems, power distribution, lighting, and fire safety.
Conduct technical checks, risk assessments, and quality assurance reviews.
Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers.
Collaborate with project managers, installation teams, and clients to resolve design issues and ensure constructability.
Contribute to value engineering initiatives to optimise cost, efficiency, and buildability.
Maintain comprehensive design records, approvals, and documentation.
Skills & Experience
Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering (Building Services or related discipline).
Proven experience in electrical design management for M&E projects in commercial, industrial, custodial, or large residential sectors.
Experience reviewing and approving third-party designs, with responsibility for QA/QC.
Knowledge of RIBA Stages 2-5 (concept ? developed ? technical design ? construction documentation).
Expertise in low & high voltage systems, lighting, fire alarm, security, and CCTV systems, particularly for custodial or secure environments.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
