Job Title: Welfare Officer Employment Status: Permanent Working Hours: 37 hours per week, Term time plus 5 inset days Actual Salary: £23,026 - £26,173 Full time equivalent salary: Support Staff Grade 4 (FTE £25,989 - £29,540) Required: As soon as possible Location: Blue Coat C of E School, Coventry About the role We are seeking to appoint a compassionate and proactive professional to take on a pivotal role in promoting and sustaining a positive, inclusive, and supportive school culture. This role focuses on pupil welfare, wellbeing, and engagement, with a strong emphasis on improving outcomes for disadvantaged and vulnerable pupils. We are looking for someone who can: Lead welfare and wellbeing strategy across Years 7–11, ensuring equity and inclusion for all pupil groups. Use data to identify trends in pupil welfare and implement targeted, evidence‑based interventions. Design and monitor bespoke support plans that improve attendance, engagement, and emotional wellbeing. Work collaboratively with staff, families, and external agencies to remove barriers to learning and promote positive outcomes. Promote restorative practices and model professional standards throughout the school. Lead on anti‑bullying, mental health, and equity‑focused initiatives. Ensure safeguarding, inclusion, and high‑quality provision across all areas of responsibility. Coordinate reintegration processes and key transition pathways for pupils. Provide pastoral line management and contribute to whole‑school leadership. All staff are expected to know what to do if they have concerns about a child, take on the responsibility for providing a safe environment and promoting children’s welfare, undertake regular safeguarding and child protection training and familiarise themselves with KCSIE part 1 and local policies and procedures as directed by the trust/academy. About us Blue Coat is a successful and oversubscribed school in the heart of the city of Coventry. As a Christian school our intake draws from both the local area and across the city and surrounding areas. Consequently, we have a diverse intake and a culturally thriving school. The school was graded ‘Outstanding’ in its SIAMS inspection and ‘Good’ by Ofsted in May 2023 and continues to perform exceptionally well academically. In 2023 our Attainment 8 at GCSE was 52.3 and our Progress 8 score was +0.42 both of which are above national average. The vast majority of our students stay on into the sixth form and continue their studies. We have a large and successful Post 16 provision with 350 pupils on average studying either A levels or Vocational Level 3 courses. We have excellent rates of progression to universities, apprenticeships and employment. We were inspected by Ofsted in May 2023, and were judged a Good School, with Outstanding for Personal Development, The Sixth Form and Leadership and Management. Ofsted shared in their report: Leaders and teachers share a moral purpose. There is a cohesive and vibrant school community. Leaders have built an inclusive community.
