Black Ember Games, an all-new development team within Xsolla, is looking for a Gameplay Programmer to join our team building an asymmetrical multiplayer FPS using Unreal Engine 5. Our small internal team operates with an indie mindset, fueled by our passion for games. We're a diverse, lively group dedicated to exploring new ideas within genres we love to play. We enjoy a hybrid work model, collaborating in our central Berlin and Novi Sad offices. Full remote is a possibility. ABOUT YOU As a Gameplay Programmer, you will work first hand on implementing the design team vision into the game, playing a crucial role in developing the feel of the game. As a team with an indie mindset, we are not adherent to a stringent hierarchy and set of processes… if you know a better way to do something, bring that to the table, discuss, and set a new direction in collaboration with design and tech leadership. RESPONSIBILITIES Own gameplay features end-to-end, identify problems, collaborate, and make design decisions. Uphold code quality and conventions: enforce standards, write maintainable code, verify changes, and seek/offer help. Build with the player in mind: prioritize the end product, user experience, and technical vision. Deliver quality at a good pace: take ownership of quality (reviews, bug fixing), participate in testing, balance speed/quality, and flag concerns early. Collaborate tightly with other crafts: work with design, art, and animation on agreed designs, and resolve technical challenges. Communicate and manage risk: contribute ideas, push back on creep/unclear specs, communicate risks early, and drive bug-fixing. REQUIREMENTS 3–5+ years professional game-programming; shipped at least one commercial title or a substantial live update in Unreal Engine. Engine fluency: UE5/UE4 production experience and day-to-day work in C++ (plus Blueprints for rapid iteration). Core gameplay delivery: Implement features from design specs, iterate quickly with design/art/animation, fix bugs, and keep features stable. Performance mindset: Comfortable profiling/optimizing gameplay code; strong debugging habits 3Dmath + fundamentals: Solid linear algebra/3D math applied to movement, combat, interactions. Collaboration & communication: Works effectively cross-discipline; can explain trade-offs and align stakeholders. Comfortable with source control (Perforce) and collaborative workflows. Operate independently on owned areas; help enforce code conventions, write readable code, ask for help, help others, run code before pushing, take some design/architecture decisions, keep the player in mind and balance quality vs. speed while raising risks early and actively participating in test sessions. Fluent English communication (written and verbal). Preferred UE gameplay subsystems: Experience with GAS, Mass Entity, Chaos, or similar gameplay frameworks. Multiplayer / replication: Practical experience with UE networking & replication. AI and Behavior: Understanding of general practices or practical knowledge with a 3rd party plugin Perforce/Jira/Horde; build & packaging pipeline know-how. Benefits: We are passionate about fostering a supportive environment for our team, so we prioritize the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of our employees through a comprehensive Benefits Program. This includes unlimited Flexible Time Off and a personalized career roadmap for each employee. By investing in professional development through training and educational opportunities, we ensure that our team thrives both personally and professionally. Together, we’re not just building a business; we’re cultivating a community that values creativity, collaboration, and the transformative power of play. Equal Employment Statement: Xsolla is dedicated to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal-opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, pregnancy, disability, age, marital status, social background or other characteristics.
