Software Development Manager, EC2 Deep Learning Accelerators Job ID: 3092781 | Amazon Web Services Development Center Germany GmbH EC2 Accelerated Nitro is looking for a Seasoned Manager of Software Development who is passionate about operating systems and hardware to lead a team of engineers with strategic business impact. In this key role, you will champion optimization and innovation of our EC2 platforms, ensuring peak performance, scalability and robust reliability. You will build a high‑performance organization by creating vision for your team, and defining the technological roadmap through the partnership with Principal Engineers, Product Managers and the engineering teams that operate the hardware and off‑host software components, distributed in different locations and time‑zones. In this position, you will wear many hats, requiring a technical background in operating systems and software development, strong product planning and program management, operational excellence, and excellent written and verbal communication skills that enable you to build trust with your leadership and your customers. Utility Computing (UC) AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS. Within AWS UC, Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) roles engage with AWS customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services. Key job responsibilities Evaluate complex business and technical requirements, and communicate inherent risks and solutions to technical and non‑technical business owners. Work close with Product Managers and Principal Engineers to understand the bigger picture, motivating and challenging your team to reach new heights. Create vision for your team, planning focused on timely delivery, driving operational activities and on‑call rotation for your team. Build trust with your leadership and your customers through timely and succinct communication while staying on message with the technical details. Build a high‑performance organization, through hiring, mentoring, skill development and performance management. Influence other teams and leaders outside your organization, work hand‑in‑hand with Principal Engineers, diving deep into technical areas as needed, and coordinate with other teams working in the same space spread across the world. A day in the lifeYou invest time in hiring the appropriate talent to make your team more effective at delivering new functionality that delights your customers. You operate the software of your team in production, anticipating problems, learning from mistakes, and ensuring customer workloads run without disruption. You drive the roadmap of your team and create long‑term vision. You work with other seasoned managers in the EC2 Accelerated Nitro organization joining efforts to strengthen engineering experience and making the organization more effective as a whole. You contribute and influence the overall roadmap of the organization. About the team Leave no customer workload on‑premises by engineering new EC2 instance families with hardware acceleration devices. Build the most feature‑rich virtualization technology in the cloud. Basic Qualifications Previous experience developing software Solid understanding of operating systems Experience managing a software development team and applying agile development methodologies Experience building and executing on a software product roadmap by driving projects and programs Excellent verbal and written communication skills Preferred Qualifications Experience working with Linux software. Understanding of critical performance areas of the operating system, and the influence of the kernel. Experience designing and implementing a software development life cycle.
