An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic individual to join the Community Diagnostic centre Teams based at Broad Street in Calderdale and Southgate in Huddersfield. The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills, be able to work under pressure with the ability to record data accurately and have an approachable nature. Full and extensive departmental training will be given for the successful candidate. We are looking for individuals who must have evidence of a good level of education along with a determination to deliver high quality compassionate care to our patients. Main duties of the job The phlebotomy team deliver a high-quality patient focused blood taking service in a wide range of settings across Calderdale and Kirklees. This role will involve working at the community diagnostic centres. Good IT skills are essential to this post, along with experience of working in a health care setting or customer service focused role. Previous experience in venepuncture would be desirable, but is not essential as we will deliver full training to the right calibre of person. About Us Phlebotomy can be a physically challenging job, which requires manual dexterity, the ability to be on your feet throughout your shift and the ability to manoeuvre in tight and cramped spaces. We operate a seven-day service between the hours of 08:00 and 20:00, and the post holder will be required to work across all these times to deliver the service. You may also be asked to work on bank holidays. However, the service requirements are continually changing to meet with needs of the patients, so flexibility is a key component. Job responsibilities Maintain patient dignity and confidentiality at all times. Adhere to Trust Aseptic Non‑Touch Technique Policy (ANTT). Work unsupervised in our community diagnostic centres. Keep fully stocked Phlebotomy trolleys, cupboards and drawers within blood collecting units and support stock taking. Maintain work areas and trolleys, keeping them clean, neat, and tidy. Undertake surveys/audits when requested to do so. Attend to staff and patients queries, referring appropriately. Comply with all Health and Safety Regulations. Use a visual display unit to book appointments and access the Trust intranet, Q‑pulse and work‑related e‑mails. Commitment to work a seven‑day service inclusive of bank holidays between the hours of 08:00 and 20:00; must be flexible to adapt to the needs of the service. Cover other staff when required. Person Specification Essential (qualifications / training) Educated to GCSE level A*‑D or equivalent in Mathematics & English. Level 2 NVQ/QCF or equivalent in healthcare or customer service‑related subject. Willingness to complete further training to complement and support specified role. Essential (knowledge, experience & expertise) Demonstrable experience of working in a health care setting or customer service focused role. Evidence of complying with legislation, policies and procedures. Evidence of ability to work under pressure whilst ensuring that patients are your priority. Experience of basic computer skills including Microsoft Office packages. Ability to lift, bend, push, pull and stand for long periods of time. Access to suitable transport (required to work in the community and visit patients at their homes; public transport may not meet this requirement). Reasonable adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act. Desirable Previous experience using Point of Care testing equipment. Previous Phlebotomy experience. Essential (communication and relationships) Compassionate and empathetic with a good understanding of equality and diversity. Effective communication skills with a wide range of individuals. Professional and positive demeanour, smart appearance, hardworking, flexible, reliable. Attention to detail and accuracy, for example, completing patient identification checks. Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team. Ability to work flexibly at a range of sites and over the full range of hours delivered by the phlebotomy service.
