This role enhances the management of deployed applications and operating systems, ensuring the Trust’s endpoint management platform aligns with NHS Digital standards, cyber security requirements, and organisational strategy. The MCM Engineer will support device image creation, software deployment, patching, and compliance reporting to support safe and efficient patient care. Main Duties Provide specialist knowledge and technical expertise in SCCM/MECM administration, supporting secure and efficient device management and deployment. Design, build, and maintain standard operating system images and task sequences for automated device builds and refreshes. Package, test, and deploy software applications and updates using SCCM/MECM and Intune where appropriate, ensuring consistency and compliance across the estate. Maintain patch management processes to ensure timely deployment of security and feature updates, supporting the Trust’s cyber resilience posture. Collaborate with Cyber Operations to ensure compliance with the DSP Toolkit, Cyber Essentials Plus, and internal security baselines. Support the transition to a hybrid operating model by developing and maintaining internal expertise in device deployment and endpoint management, reducing dependency on external resources. Implement configuration baselines, compliance policies, and reporting to ensure all endpoints meet Trust and NHS standards for performance and security. Monitor SCCM/MECM performance, troubleshoot issues, and apply remediation actions to maintain system reliability and service quality. Maintain accurate documentation, including build processes, configuration settings, and deployment workflows, to support continuity and audit readiness. Work collaboratively with End User Services, Network, and Cyber teams to ensure endpoint management aligns with infrastructure and security policies. Participate in testing, change management, and release cycles to ensure stable introduction of new technologies or updates into the production environment. Contribute to service improvement initiatives, automation opportunities, and digital transformation projects to enhance end‑user experience and operational efficiency. Expected to work flexibly to meet the needs of a 24/7 healthcare organisation, which may occasionally require work outside of standard office hours or membership of an on‑call rota. Endpoint Management and Deployment Manage and maintain the Trust’s SCCM/MECM infrastructure, ensuring reliable operation and availability. Design, build, and deploy standardised Windows operating system images and drivers for Trust devices. Create and manage automated deployment task sequences for build, rebuild, and in‑place upgrade processes. Package and distribute applications and updates to endpoints efficiently and securely, minimising user disruption. Collaborate with technical teams to maintain integration with Active Directory, Group Policy, Intune, and security tools. Manage Microsoft and third‑party patching schedules through SCCM/MECM, ensuring systems remain up to date and compliant. Produce compliance and vulnerability reports for audit and cyber assurance purposes. Remediate non‑compliant systems in collaboration with End User Services and Cyber Operations. Support business continuity by maintaining documented recovery procedures and configuration backups. Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement within endpoint management. Contribute to wider Digital Services initiatives to enhance the stability, performance, and security of the Trust’s digital estate. Essential Person Specification Requirements Educated to degree level or equivalent, or able to demonstrate equivalent level of experience. Previous experience of managing staff. Extensive experience of configuring and deploying using MCM/SCCM. Significant knowledge of working practices within technical/cyber security. Experience in operating system deployment. Experience in application packaging and deployment. Proficiency in scripting with PowerShell. Experience working with directory services, including AD, Group Policy Management, Microsoft Entra (Azure AD). Experience working with suppliers. Ability to define Trust security requirements and interpret them for system suppliers. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
