Job grade: AClosing date: 07/10/2025We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our Waste Operations team at Farnham STW.ResponsibilitiesInspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment in a safe, efficient, timely and effective manner with minimum supervision to keep sites operational.Ensure health, safety and wellbeing of yourself, colleagues, contractors and visitors by complying with Health & Safety at Work regulations and Thames Water guidelines.Undertake reactive and planned maintenance, respond to alarms and faults, identify issues, fix or escalate as needed; install new plant and equipment in line with current standards and regulations.Record work and asset information to improve business performance; identify risks and recommend changes for resolution in day-to-day work.Provide specialist technical advice with up-to-date knowledge and contribute to coaching, training and development of staff, including the apprenticeship programme.Deliver excellent customer experience and contribute to overall customer satisfaction; interact with internal and external customers in a timely, professional, efficient, respectful and polite manner.Location and Working PatternBase location: Farnham STW – Monkton Lane, GU9 9ND.Working pattern: 38 hours, Monday to Friday, 7:30–3:36. Standby rota payments and overtime opportunities may increase earnings.RequirementsTime-served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical & electrical systems; or NVQ/C&G Level 3 in mechanical & electrical engineering.Ideally upskilled with a mechanical qualification to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical and electrical plant safely and efficiently.For those with mechanical or electrical experience only, development toward dual-skilled status will be considered.Knowledge and awareness of health & safety issues are crucial.Physical fitness for working in confined spaces, with completion of appropriate training.Valid driving licence is essential; vehicle and tools are provided.What’s in it for you?Competitive salary up to £45,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.Standby rota payments & overtime opportunities can increase earnings by up to £8,000–£10,000 per annum after training.Performance-related pay plan linked to company performance measures.Contributory pension (defined contribution) with up to 12% employer contribution and 2x employee contribution.Annual leave: 24 days, rising to 28 with length of service plus bank holidays.Generous pension scheme through AON and other wellbeing benefits, including health-related and financial wellbeing support.Generous family leave provisions (Paternity and Maternity) and other lifestyle benefits such as Cycle to Work and life assurance.Access to benefits supporting health, wellbeing and finances.Thames Water is the UK’s largest water and wastewater company, serving more than 16 million customers.
