UK Power Networks is a frontier performer in our sector in the core areas of safety, customer service, reliability, and resilience. We are a critical part of ensuring the transition to Net Zero, in addition to entering a new regulated price control period. We are moving away from traditional methods of simply investing to build a physical network to building a smarter, more flexible, and efficient energy system.

Scope and Principal Requirements

This autonomous role offers a unique opportunity for a motivated professional to influence and shape the future of risk management within a dynamic, regulated industry. You will ensure the UK's transition to Net Zero by improving and establishing the latest assurance techniques.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Leadership: Lead a portfolio of diverse internal audit assignments, ensuring the highest standards of quality and integrity. You will provide assurance over all risks faced by the organisation.
  2. Partner Engagement: Build relationships with partners at all levels, including Executive leadership and external partners. You will help drive improvements.
  3. Advisory Role: Use your expertise to advise the business on risk management practices, ensuring that risks are identified, avoided, and managed according to our vision and goals.
  4. Collaboration: Work with the wider Risk & Assurance team to implement opportunities for integrated assurance, using the latest data analytics tools to provide enhanced insights and value.
  5. Continuous Improvement: Apply your experience and knowledge to produce recommendations that lead to tangible, meaningful, and measurable results.
Minimum Requirements
  1. A relevant degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field, or an assurance/audit/compliance qualification (e.g., CIA, ACCA, CIMA).
  2. Experience in internal audit or a related assurance function.
  3. Experience with internal control frameworks and risk management principles.

  5. Ability to lead others to solve complex issues across a functional organisation, with an emphasis on using data to create solutions.
  6. Write accurate, concise, and impactful audit reports and discuss sensitive topics.
  7. Experience in the utilities or industrial sectors, with an understanding of the operational risks and regulatory environment.
  8. Familiarity with fraud investigations or regulatory compliance processes.
  9. Experience with the energy industry and a commitment to contributing to the UK's transition to Net Zero.
Personal Attributes
  1. Collaborative and team-oriented, with a willingness to work across all areas of the Risk & Assurance team.
  2. Passionate about continuous improvement and innovation in assurance practices.
Health & Safety Responsibilities

Managers and supervisors carry both legal and company responsibilities for ensuring the health and safety of their employees, those under their control, and those who might be affected by the work undertaken, i.e. public, visitors, and employees of other organisations. This includes briefing individuals working for them and ensuring there is the necessary understanding, competence, and application of requirements to work safely and without harming the environment.

Employees will ensure they understand the health and safety risks involved in their work activities and their responsibility to apply the controls needed to manage those risks to acceptable levels. Similarly, where work activities can have an adverse impact upon the environment, and where there are legal requirements, employees will understand those impacts and the controls they must ensure are applied.

We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, colour, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender, gender identity or expression, or veteran status. We are proud to be an equal opportunity workplace.
