The Band 6 Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist (OT) post in the Forensic Community Service spans Mariposa House, the Women's Forensic Hostel and the wider Forensic Community Service. The role works alongside the Band 7 OT and the multi‑disciplinary team to deliver skilled, needs‑led, client‑centred, recovery‑focused OT assessment and intervention, both in groups and individually. Responsibilities Provide OT assessment and interventions via groups and individual work related to self‑care, work and leisure. Manage a clinical caseload and support evidence‑based OT practice. Contribute to service development, research, audit and the maintenance of the Trust‑wide OT Service. Work independently without direct supervision and supervise junior staff, including OT students on clinical placement. Conduct risk assessment and management, and implement risk‑managed engagement in the community. Lead on promoting co‑production and peer mentor opportunities within the forensic community service and wider community. Provide OT advice to the multi‑professional team and participate in clinical meetings and MDT care planning. Apply disability knowledge, training and advice on life skills to maximise functional ability. Maintain accurate electronic and written records in line with professional and Trust standards. Participate in operational planning, implementation, evaluation and audit of clinical care pathways and protocols. Support CPD through internal and external training, keep a CPD portfolio and contribute to clinical governance and quality agenda. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, national guidelines and legislation relating to mental health and social care provision. Identify appropriateness of referrals, prioritise workload and manage effective discharge with relevant agencies. Apply high‑level understanding of the effect of disability and provide training and advice on life skills to enhance independence for offenders with physical disability and mental health needs. Research Critically evaluate current research, apply findings to practice and broaden research and development skills through local audit and research projects. Communicate effectively with service users, carers, team members and other agencies, including those with communication difficulties. Promote awareness of the OT role within the team and negotiate priorities where appropriate.
