Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

TipTopJob is a global manufacturer located in Birmingham, West Midlands, England. We are looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our team on a day‑based role. The position may occasionally require shift cover for sickness or holidays (approximately once every 3 months). Location: Birmingham, West Midlands, England Salary: GBP 45,000 – GBP 48,000 Employment type: Full‑time, Days (Occasional shift cover) Responsibilities Serve as a primary point of contact for maintenance activities, overseeing processes, TPM initiatives, and contractor coordination to ensure smooth operations and optimal equipment availability. Adhere to and promote company Health, Safety and Environmental policies, completing relevant risk assessments and following all SOPs. Deliver hands‑on mechanical and technical support for equipment and assist with maintenance across other production lines. Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and TPM tasks, while responding promptly and effectively to equipment breakdowns. Monitor, assess, and interpret equipment performance data to support continuous improvement and enhance reliability. Work closely with production and engineering teams to plan and execute maintenance activities with minimal operational impact. Lead, mentor, and support apprentices, contributing to their technical development and skill progression. Manage spare parts availability and oversee on‑site contractors, ensuring all work meets company standards and compliance requirements. Provide technical insight and support for engineering projects, equipment upgrades, and new machinery installations. Requirements Relevant Mechanical Engineering qualifications (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, BTEC; HNC desirable). Minimum 3 years’ experience in medium to heavy industrial maintenance. Strong knowledge of fluid power systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, fabrication, and machine shop activities. Ability to read and interpret mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic drawings. Experience with annealing, induction furnaces, casting, or rolling equipment is highly desirable. Excellent communication and organisational skills.
