Apply for the Environmental Technician role at Structural Soils. Due to an increase in workload, Structural Soils, part of the RSK Group, are looking for an Environmental Technician to join our expanding team in Southampton, UK. The role will provide technician support across a variety of contracts, including monitoring and sampling for external companies and Councils. It is a full‑time, field‑based role with sites predominantly across the South of England; a home base between Heathrow and Southampton is ideal. Training will cover a wide range of monitoring and sampling disciplines, offering valuable experience and opportunities for career progression within Structural Soils Ltd and the wider RSK Group. Responsibilities Environmental monitoring (Waters, Gas, Leachate, Air and Soil) Gas, Soils and Water Sampling Closed landfill monitoring and sampling Contaminated land assessment – data collection Surveying techniques Continuous gas and water monitoring techniques Hydrogeological testing – Variable Head Tests, Constant Flow, Pneumatic Slug Testing Telemetry and datalogging equipment installation and maintenance Geotechnical monitoring techniques – Inclinometer, Extensometer, VWP Person Specification This post is suitable for a practically minded graduate or candidate with more practical experience. A Science Degree or A‑Levels is an advantage but not essential. You will work independently on some projects and as part of a supportive team. Training courses (external and in‑house) will provide the knowledge and skills required for surveying, sample collection and data handling. The role involves driving, lifting and carrying samples and equipment. Key qualities and skills: Practical mindset and experience in technical field work Ability to work outdoors in all seasons Good attention to detail and capacity to learn new concepts Full clean driving licence, as travel is required Confidence to work independently and as part of a team Willingness to work across the UK and stay overnight in company accommodation when required Flexibility for out‑of‑hours and weekend work, with time off in lieu Salary and Benefits Salary £26,000 per annum 31 days annual leave (including Bank Holidays), rising to 36 days for extended service Life insurance, pension scheme and free private GP service A flexible benefits programme including options to purchase additional holidays, health cash plan, discounted gym membership, cycle‑to‑work scheme, electric car salary sacrifice scheme, and more Paid volunteer time Health & wellbeing programme Payment of relevant professional memberships and mentoring toward chartership The RSK Group are an equal opportunity employer.
