Go back Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust Community Oncology Specialist The closing date is 11 December 2025 An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated oncology nurse to join our Community Oncology Nurse Specialist Team providing exceptional support and bringing care closer to home for cancer patients living in Poole, Bournemouth and North Dorset. You will be at the forefront of service development and committed to improving care for patients with cancer and complex health/social needs in the community setting. As an autonomous practitioner within our friendly team, you will independently manage your own caseload providing specialist advice and acting as a resource to others regarding cancer care and survivorship. Delivering training and education to community HCP's, patients and carers is also part of the role, as is working collaboratively with colleagues across many disciplines. You will also be a non‑medical prescriber (having studied at masters level or willing to undertake qualification) to help manage patients' symptoms/treatment side effects and in the prevention of deterioration/admission. Competency in SACT administration is a requirement for this post as well as excellent clinical and advanced communication skills. This is a part‑time post (22.5hrs). Service hours are Monday‑Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm. Main duties of the job To act as an autonomous practitioner, independently managing a patient case load, making critical clinical decisions independently, where appropriate when reviewing, monitoring and managing oncology patients. To proactively plan, co‑ordinate, deliver and evaluate the provision of a high‑quality specialist cancer nursing service within the community and across the primary and secondary care interface. To work as an Independent Non‑Medical Independent & Supplementary prescriber, able to take a history, assess, examine, diagnose and prescribe a management plan including medication and monitor response to medication. To initiate, administer, evaluate and develop specialist community‑based cancer treatments. To formulate, monitor and evaluate evidence‑based standards and policies relating to cancer care. To work in partnership with other Health Care Professionals, service users and other agencies, to develop the primary care aspects of the national agenda for Cancer Service Development, the Network agenda and the needs of the local community. Provide educational training and mentorship to the generalist workforce in line with Trust requirements. To be responsible for the local and national dissemination of information pertinent to the development of the service. Represent the Trust at Cancer Alliance meetings in relation to the further development of community cancer services.
