Main Purpose of Job & Key Responsibilities Our Strategic Procurement role would suit a person currently working in the subcontract electronics and mechanical manufacturing sector who is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and managing supplier relationships for components and services, ensuring timely delivery and cost efficiency while supporting engineering and production teams. A previous varied product line background with exposure to electronic, electromechanical, fabrication and CNC machining are areas that would assist your impact within this role. Working as part of a NPD project team the strategic procurement role involves several key responsibilities focused on collaboration, problem-solving as part of the NPD team, additionally, you will be required to get involved and take swift action on specific business issues outside of your current primary project as they arise. Within our product range we have several key suppliers who provide essential components, a key skill needed for this role is the ability to maintain supplier relationships whilst still maintaining competitive commercial terms. Participate actively within multidisciplinary project teams to understand project scope, objectives, and timelines, ensuring procurement strategies complement overall project goals. Contribute to the development of comprehensive procurement plans that define expectations, deadlines, and stakeholder involvement to support project success. Work closely with SLT, engineers, finance, and quality teams to maintain alignment between procurement tasks and broader project activities. Act as liaison between suppliers and project team members, ensuring vendor contributions match scheduled milestones. Negotiate and manage master purchasing contracts, quality assurance agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and consignment contracts. Optimize supplier base for efficiency, quality, and risk management, including supplier onboarding and performance reviews. Analyse market trends and cost drivers to identify savings opportunities and mitigate risks related to pricing and supply chain disruptions. Manage RFQs, sourcing activities, and oversee the procurement process from initial assessment to delivery and closure. Leading supplier evaluation, onboarding, and ongoing vendor management for PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly) or fabricated / CNC mechanical parts. Project managing complex supply chains to coordinate delivery schedules, quality assurance, and performance metrics. Engaging in corrective actions and continuous improvement with underperforming suppliers Remain adaptable to handle unforeseen, urgent procurement-related challenges as they arise. Quickly identify root causes of procurement or supply chain challenges such as supplier delays, quality concerns, or contract disputes. Develop and implement effective solutions promptly to minimize project disruption and keep procurement activities aligned with business goals. Adapt quickly to shifting project priorities, ensuring timely resolution of issues. Monitor the progress of issue resolution and adjust plans as necessary to ensure timely project delivery. Qualifications Degree in engineering (mechanical or electrical), supply chain, business, or related field – alternatively, 10+ years’ in the job experience and educated to A Level standard. 5-10+ years of relevant procurement experience in electronics or mechanical manufacturing; subcontract management experience preferred. Proven track record in supplier negotiation, cost analysis, and contract management. Strong understanding of technical specifications, drawings, and manufacturing processes in electronics and/or mechanical sectors. Proficiency with procurement software, ERP/MRP systems, and Microsoft Office for analysis and reporting. Excellent communication, relationship management, and organizational skills. Strategic thinking, market analysis, and risk management abilities. Professional certifications such as CIPS are desirable. Previous experience of SAP would be beneficial.
