Lead Fitness Instructor

Job Summary We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Fitness Instructor to join our Fitness and Wellbeing team based at the Old Chapel Gym, on the Countess of Chester Health Park site. You will be passionate about improving the physical health and wellbeing of vulnerable people, communicate with people from all walks of life and motivate and empower others using a collaborative and supportive approach. You will demonstrate excellent leadership and organisational skills and be committed to continuous service improvement and team working. This is a permanent part‑time post for 22 hours per week over 4 days (Monday 9.30am‑3.30pm, Tuesday‑Thursday 10am‑4pm). Main Duties of the Job As Lead Fitness Instructor you will: Coordinate and maintain a well‑resourced gym, ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment for all gym users. Lead the day‑to‑day running of the service, overseeing fitness instructors and volunteers. Plan and deliver safe and effective exercise sessions within the hospital setting, recognising risk factors and managing them appropriately. Advocate for the benefits of physical activity on mental and physical health. Organise scheduling of sessions and liaise with management on service development needs. Work closely with the Lead Occupational Therapist and members of the hospital clinical team. Qualifications Essential Level 3 Certificate in fitness instructing, including gym qualification, OR OCR Level 3 Certificate teaching exercise and fitness, including gym qualification. Eligibility for registration with the Register of Fitness Professionals (REPS). First Aid Certificate. Desirable Level 2 Certificate in fitness instructing with children. Level 3 GP referral qualification. Knowledge & Expertise Essential Knowledge of human anatomy. Physical exercise programmes. Understanding the link between physical and mental health. Understanding risks for people with learning disabilities, mental illness and dementia within a fitness setting. Desirable Knowledge of health promotion and healthy lifestyle (nutrition/diet, balanced lifestyle, stress management). Awareness of bed‑based NHS services. Experience Essential Experience delivering exercise classes. Experience engaging individuals in physical exercise. Experience leading and/or managing others and/or a service. Experience delivering exercise sessions for vulnerable and/or disabled people. Desirable Previous experience within mental health, learning disability services or dementia care. Experience in health promotion, care or working with vulnerable people.
