Structural Detail Design Engineer

As a Detail Design Engineer, you will carry out detailed engineering design activities, working closely with cross‑functional teams on a range of projects, ensuring that work complies with industry standards and regulations. You will deliver accurate technical drawings and specifications, help identify and resolve any design issues that may arise, support the business in preparing technical reports and documents, and participate in design reviews. You're an experienced designer, comfortable using design software and tools such as FORAN. You have a keen eye for detail and accuracy, and can apply analytical and problem‑solving skills in challenging situations. You are able to work autonomously or within a larger team and adapt flexibly to changing project requirements. Responsibilities Creation of CAD models and drawings: producing detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and drawings in line with required standards. Design deliverables: ensuring all design deliverables are completed accurately and on time. Liaising with colleagues and stakeholders during appropriate design phases to ensure coordination and functionality of design. Project support: contributing to and supporting the entire project and product design cycle, from concept to construction and installation. Technical support: providing technical support during the construction and installation phases. Performing self‑verification of work. Reporting technical progress and issues to line management. Ensuring safety, health and environmental requirements are implemented. Assisting with the maintenance and improvement of quality standards of outputs. Change embodiment. Qualifications Holder of an NC/HNC or an equivalent qualification/experience in a related discipline. Apprenticeship in a relevant discipline or relevant industry experience. Essential Skills Familiarity with shipbuilding/ship repair terminology and practices. Proficiency in the use of parametric/spec‑driven CAD systems in both 3D and 2D environments. Experience with FORAN. Experience with Windchill. Desired Skills Preferable experience with T26. Experience Experience in design processes and procedures within detail design (stage 2 modelling / stage 3 outputs) on naval or commercial marine projects (preferably naval shipbuilding projects, new build or major conversion packages) or similar.
