Job Summary Working Full time: 37.5 hours per week. As an advanced podiatrist you will play a proactive role in developing care pathways and new ways of working whilst utilising a full range of routine and advanced podiatric techniques. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide advanced podiatry treatment to patients with diabetes and complex vascular wounds within both inpatients and outpatient clinics in an acute secondary care setting. The post holder will be a clinical expert for high‑risk foot care, delivering comprehensive advanced assessment, diagnosis, planning, treatment and implementation of podiatric care, including wound management and pressure offloading to maintain patients’ mobility and independence. Flexibility, including occasional weekend work and travel to Ellesmere Port hospital, is required. Clinical audit, service review, supervision and clinical education are essential aspects of this role. Responsibilities Manage a complex and advanced clinical caseload of high‑risk patients using evidence‑based practice to assess, implement and evaluate podiatric treatment plans. Maintain a high level of care in line with HCPC registered podiatry standards. Deliver advanced podiatry skills including pressure offloading, casting, vascular assessment and wound debridement to patients with diabetic and complex vascular wounds and pre/post‑surgical intervention. Apply knowledge of wound dressing products and evidence‑based practice in decision making. Participate in prescription decision‑making for antibiotics and other prescription‑only medication. Request and interpret x‑ray reports, Doppler scans and blood tests, recommending further investigations as clinically indicated. Explain complex and potentially distressing situations (e.g., need for amputation) to patients with empathy. Work autonomously and as part of a team to manage your clinical caseload in outpatient clinics (MDFT foot clinics) and inpatient wards. Triage referrals to the service on agreed criteria to avoid patient risk. Collaborate with other healthcare professions to meet individual patient needs. Qualifications and Requirements Essential BSc (Hons) Podiatric Medicine or equivalent. HCPC registration and evidence of continued CPD. MSc or equivalent module, or willingness to work towards. Evidence of postgraduate professional development in diabetes and high‑risk wound management at a masters level or equivalent. Experience working at a band 6 level with a high‑risk caseload. Advanced specialist knowledge in diabetes, wound management, minor surgery, orthotic interventions and pressure‑relieving devices including casting techniques. Knowledge of national and local priorities and trends in specialist care. Ability to participate in service development and implement change. Good presentation, organisational and communication skills. Capability to manage workload in a busy clinic setting and adapt to change. Team‑working ability. Desirable IRMER certificate. Prescribing qualification. Local Anaesthesia certificate. Prescription‑only medicines certificate. Experience supervising/mentoring staff and clinical placement students. Knowledge of national/local standards and the clinical governance agenda. Active involvement in research, clinical audit or other quality improvement activities. Formal qualification in teaching/health education. Experience delivering Diabetic Foot Programs to other professionals. Experience in staff development/human resource management. Additional Details Pay Scheme: Agenda for change – Band 7 (£47,810 to £54,710 a year pa). Contract: Permanent. Working pattern: Full‑time. Reference number: 210‑2025‑808.
