Job overview Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospital Trust are seeking a band 7 Dietitian with a special interest in Diabetes to join the team for a 12 month fixed term / secondment due to service expansion and the start of the insulin pump service. We are looking for a self‑motivated, team‑player to help improve patient care and outcomes across Trust. You must have experience in diabetes with a detailed knowledge of diabetes treatment and carbohydrate counting. Ideally you should have some experience caring for patients on insulin pumps and be ready and willing to learn and develop this. You will be involved in supporting the type 1 diabetes patients and the diabetes insulin pump service. You will take part in dietitian‑led clinics, assess in‑patients on pumps, help review and suggest treatment, and provide advice and education to patients, relatives and ward staff. Availability to work across site is required; the role will be based in KGH initially and may require covering a 7‑day working week. Although this is a 12‑month fixed‑term contract, the actual duration will be adjusted to account for advertising, hiring and pre‑employment checks; the contract begins when the candidate starts and may be slightly shorter than 12 months. Main duties of the job You will be involved in supporting and supervising junior dietitians and nurses. Work with a team displaying PRIDE values: Passion, Responsibility, Innovation, Drive and Empowerment. Provide a specialist, effective, flexible clinical dietetic service to the Diabetes & Endocrine Service at BHRUT, covering all diabetes patients (mainly outpatients but not exclusively) with a focus on Type 1 Diabetes and insulin pump users. Offer expert guidance and advice to other members of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) within the Endocrine & Diabetes Department, focusing on Type 1 Diabetes and insulin pump patients. Undertake regular research and audit to ensure practice is evidence‑based. Lead service development in the clinical area and contribute to the day‑to‑day running and development of the dietetic service through the promotion, adaptation and development of policies, procedures and guidelines using evidence‑based practice and current research. Provide leadership for the dietetic service within the Endocrine & Diabetes Department. Plan, coordinate, deliver and evaluate the dietetic service provided to diabetes patients within the specialist service. Person specification Essential criteria Degree in Nutrition & Dietetics or equivalent Registered as a Dietitian with the Health and Care Professions Council Proven experience in a specialist dietetic service You must have appropriate UK professional registration Desirable criteria Membership of the British Dietetics Association and specialist group Post‑graduate teaching & training in cognitive behavioural therapy, further education, and clinical supervisory skills Experience with patients on insulin pumps All new staff appointed are subject to a probationary period.
