Consultant Psychiatrist for Older Adults – Juniper Ward This post is a replacement for a currently vacant role. The successful candidate will cover Juniper Ward at Bowmere Hospital, Countess of Chester site, Chester. The role is 1.0 WTE. Juniper Ward is a mixed‑category open‑age inpatient mental health ward caring for people aged 18 and above in West Cheshire. Service users present with a range of mental disorders including affective disorder, psychosis and personality disorder and can be admitted informally or under the Mental Health Act. The ward has a fully functional multidisciplinary team including foundation trainees, core and higher trainees, psychologists, occupational therapists and pharmacy. As the inpatient consultant and responsible clinician for people detained under the Mental Health Act, you will be expected to enhance current care pathways for inpatient care and work closely with the Home Treatment Team and CMHT to support care and treatment. You will also participate in the West Consultant Psychiatrist on‑call rota – a low‑frequency rota, not less than one in 13. Shortlisting for this vacancy commences on 17 December 2025. The proposed interview date is 11 January 2026. Responsibilities Provide consultant psychiatric input and responsible clinician cover for service users in Juniper Ward. Deliver medical input into SPA, with the agreed Acute Service Operational Policy. Involve flexibly and creatively with colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary team, promoting informed risk‑taking and anti‑discriminatory practice.
