About the roleDo you want to be at the forefront of one of the world’s most ambitious sustainability initiatives?Balfour Beatty have created iconic buildings and infrastructure all over the world over the past 115 years redefining excellence and setting the industry benchmark with every project.As a result, alongside several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty have been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first‑of‑a‑kind fully integrated gas‑fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Senior General Foreman to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.What you’ll be doingOversees small work packages and supports construction managers on larger work packages, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, and within budget. Responsible for coordinating with subcontractors, managing schedules, handling permits and regulations, and ensuring quality control and safety compliance.Health, Safety & EnvironmentKnowing what safety excellence looks like and communicating the safety messageActively engage with the customer to understand and deliver their key objectivesPromoting sustainable solutions and environmental compliance around all operationAccountable for RAMs, Procedures and SSOW in place for their section of workManagement of plant movements, sign-offs, checklists and specifications under company requirements/systemsSupport accident investigation with the HSE teamOwn and deliver Daily Dabs BriefingsProduction ControlUnderstand project plans and schedules, to have the ability to plan short and medium schedules that beat the delivery programme, with personal input on the estimation/resource required (labour, materials, time)To manage and implement their schedules/programmes within the project scheme, including the short‑term programmesOwn and manage sections of work ensuring subcontractors achieve their production & contractual obligations with direct competent decision‑making that can be validated by line managementImplement Short Interval Control Progress Records that are commercial and contractually viableDevelop short‑term programmes into marked‑up plans to aid planning, records and logisticsRun own small‑scale DABs relevant to the section of works including short interval control integrationLogisticsThe ability to instigate effective logistics with subcontractors and other members of the BB Project teamSolve conflicts of logic to ensure the responsible works are successful with short‑ and long‑term logistical planning that is in sync with their schedule/programmeBe able to break a project down into its elements and analyse each element for its project‑specific logistical requirementsUnderstanding and ownership of sequence and phasingUnderstanding of plant and lifting requirements for tasks under their responsibilityQuality & TechnicalParticipate with the management of internal/external design & quality team/consultant/customer to meet project deadlinesTechnically foresee, identify, and conclude design errors/deficienciesLead in the technical delivery of Quality AssuranceIdentify and manage quality issues and NCRs from cradle to grave to ensure they are technically accurate, to specification, stopping and demanding re‑works where appropriateUnderstand and contribute to the development and application of building safety and fire safety strategies, practices, and technological systems in buildings. Taking ownership of the management of installation and complianceBeing responsible for and confident in approving/ signing off worksClear understanding of hold point and handover requirements throughout the project construction cycleCommercialUnderstand the commercial implications and drivers within the construction process and incorporate these into decision‑makingBuild and understand scopes (project and supply chain) as well as understand the contractual obligation for their element of work both up and downstreamIdentify procurement requirements and commercial impact of delays, with effective records and management culpabilitySupport to commercial team with accurate site records and backup during any disputesAbility to process additional works and support BB position (day works)Who we’re looking forSkillsCan support communications that manage relationshipsImplement basic leadership skillsAbility to improve safety and sustainability performanceAssist negotiations and conflict resolutions as well as lead others to do the sameAssist management of data and processesImplement basic construction management principlesAssist stakeholder managementAdvanced IT skills for the use of BIM and construction management toolsKnowledgeAwareness of construction techniques, methodologies and management principlesAwareness of budgeting and cost controlUnderstanding of scheduling and programme management.
