Service Technician (Cage Wash)

Starting Salary: £26,543 to £27,058 per annum

MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, UK

You will work within a small team, within our Cage Wash area, to deliver essential support services to the MRC LMB Animal Facility located in the Ares Building on the Babraham Research Campus. This facility forms part of the larger team known as the Biological Services Group (BSG), whose aim is to support scientific researchers at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB), specifically to provide animal husbandry for laboratory mice used in medical research.

This varied position involves the delivery and collection of animal cages and processing of dirty water bottles using automated and semi-automated machinery such as autoclaves. Store and laundry duties, cleaning of the service support area, and replenishing diet, bedding dispensers, and other stocked items are also included.

Ideally, you will have experience in working as part of a team, working independently, and developing strong working relationships. You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of maintaining high levels of hygiene to ensure a suitable environment.

We operate a standard working pattern for full-time staff of 8am – 3.45pm, Monday to Thursday, and 8am – 3.30pm on a Friday. However, applications from candidates looking for part-time hours or a job share will be considered.

The role is based on the Babraham Research Campus, and there may be occasional travel to our main lab on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

You will be eligible to join our defined benefit pension scheme with an employer contribution of 16%, holiday entitlement of 40.5 days (including bank holidays and privilege days), and a generous employee discount scheme. You will also have access to free on-site parking, sport and social facilities, as well as a salary sacrifice scheme for cycle to work. We are also committed to providing training and development opportunities including support towards role-related qualifications.

The LMB is a world-class research institute within UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). UKRI is nine research councils, working together across all disciplines and sectors. More information can be found at www.ukri.org and www.mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk.
