Door Supervisor – Job Description A Door Supervisor is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment at licensed premises such as bars, clubs, events, and entertainment venues. The role involves controlling entry, monitoring behaviour, managing conflict, and ensuring compliance with licensing laws and venue policies. Key Responsibilities Customer Entry & Access Control Check IDs to ensure customers meet age requirements. Assess customers for intoxication or prohibited behaviour. Search individuals and belongings in accordance with venue policy and legal standards. Manage queue lines, ensuring efficient and safe entry to the venue. Safety & Security Monitoring Patrol the venue to identify and address potential risks. Monitor CCTV where required. Prevent overcrowding and maintain compliance with capacity limits. Respond to emergencies, including fire alarms and medical incidents. Conflict Management De-escalate disputes or aggressive behaviour using approved techniques. Remove individuals safely and legally when necessary. Report and document incidents in line with company procedures. Legal Compliance Ensure the venue complies with local licensing laws and regulations. Refuse entry when legally required (e.g., intoxicated individuals). Maintain professional standards in line with security industry guidelines (e.g., SIA regulations in the UK). Customer Service Provide a friendly and professional first point of contact for guests. Assist customers with directions, questions, or concerns. Support the venue staff to ensure a positive customer experience. Skills & Qualities Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to stay calm under pressure. Firm but fair approach to decision‑making. Excellent observation and situational awareness. Conflict resolution and de‑escalation skills. Physical fitness and stamina. Professional and respectful attitude. Required Qualifications (varies by country) For example, in the UK: Valid SIA Door Supervisor Licence. Emergency First Aid at Work (often required or preferred). Additional training in conflict management, physical intervention, and safeguarding.
