Chelsea Handball Club is spreading the benefits of sport to diverse local groups in an inclusive manner. We need help with our fundraising efforts to enable us diversify our income and offer more for less to our community members. Our Vision is to become the community club of choice in London, where everyone gets active via the Sport of Handball. We want to carry on activities which benefit the community and encourage, foster and develop Handball in all its forms amongst all ages and sections of our community. For many of the people we serve, one of the primary blockers in entering team sports are the associated costs. This blocker was further exacerbated due to the impact of the pandemic and the recent cost‑of‑living crisis towards the financially‑disadvantaged social groups. Many surveys of sport authorities have documented this. So, to sustain our participation and further expand it in the future, we need to ensure that we are able to offer more with asking our most vulnerable members to pay less or, ideally, participate for free. What difference will you make? You will be contributing to bringing more people into physical movement via handball – particularly physically inactive social groups, such as children and young people, women and girls, and financially‑disadvantaged socio‑economic groups, in accordance with Sport England’s strategy – by: Reducing and ideally removing participation barriers, like fees to cover costs for venue lettings, equipment, competition kit, travel expenses, qualifications and credentials for our officials (management, coaches, table officials and referees); Incentivising more volunteers to contribute to our club’s operations, as well as promoting handball in secondary schools through after‑school/satellite clubs, via covering their expenses for their activities and development. What are we looking for? Strong written and verbal communication skills along with a persuasive personality. Professional, friendly, organised, energetic and determined demeanour. Experience servicing existing and developing other revenue streams. Ability to build a rapport with sponsors quickly. Develop understanding of what our Club has to offer and what it needs. Attention to detail. Strong organisational skills. At least three years’ experience in fundraising. What will you be doing? The role of the Fundraising Officer is to attract and retain club revenue, additional to membership fees, that is generated via sponsorships, grants and donations (individual and crowdfunding) by managing, supporting and developing imaginative fundraising activities. Income Generation Manage, support and develop imaginative fundraising activities, some of which may be events‑based. Contribute to bid writing for grant applications. Other Stay abreast of fundraising good practice and legislation, ensuring compliance with the Institute of Fundraising and FRSB codes of practice.
