HCA Education and Development Practitioner Job Overview An exciting opportunity has arisen for motivated applicants to join the Healthcare Assistant (HCA) Education and development team. We have two full‑time posts available, but part‑time hours will also be considered. The posting aims to support the development of HCAs across Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB). The position will involve supporting newly appointed HCAs and Bank workers in accessing the All‑Wales Induction programme, and supporting learners through assessment of their Qualification and Credit Framework. Successful applicants must have recent NHS clinical experience, as they will work in clinical areas throughout BCUHB—both hospital and community—assisting learners in their professional development. The role also requires designing, developing and delivering developmental sessions as per the All Wales Induction Programme to learners. Driving across the Health Board is essential. The office base will be confirmed (West or Central) and interviews will be face‑to‑face. Main duties of the job Contribute to the design, development, and delivery of training programmes for Healthcare Assistants and health apprentices within the identified Health Community. Provide assessment and support to HCAs and apprentices in their professional development. Implement patient care: observe patient condition, record clinical observations, and report to registered nurses while supporting HCAs and apprentices in the ward areas as part of the assessment process. Carry out nursing procedures (e.g., observations, re‑dressing wounds, blood glucose monitoring) as part of HCA education assessment and patient care. Supervise clinical HCAs/apprentices and assist in assessment and attainment of their learning and development needs. Welsh language skills are desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply. Person specification Qualifications/Knowledge Essential criteria Level 3 NVQ/QCF in a health‑related subject or equivalent. Level 4 Healthcare Practice or equivalent (or willingness to undertake within 18 months). Demonstration of recent continuing professional development. A1 Assessor Award. Registered with Education Council Wales if not already registered. Desirable criteria Teaching Certificate or equivalent. V1 IQA Award. Experience Essential criteria Clinically competent in a wide range of clinical interventions. Relevant experience in a healthcare environment. Desirable criteria Experience of working in partnership across organisations. Presentation skills.
