Come and join us The Role The Financial Crime team in HSBC Innovation Banking (UK) (HINV) is the second line of defence team responsible for ensuring the firm’s adherence with Financial Crime policies, procedures and controls, the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and UK regulatory requirements. The team covers Anti‑Money Laundering, Counter‑terrorism Financing (CTF), Sanctions, Fraud, Anti‑Bribery and Corruption and Tax Evasion. This role reports to the MLRO, with direction also from the Client Advisory Director and leads work on High‑Risk Sectors within the Financial Crime Client Advisory team. The Client Advisory team are subject matter experts who provide advice to the business on managing complex financial crime risks associated with our clients and ensure that client relationships remain compliant with financial crime regulation, policies and procedures. The team you’ll work with This role leads work on high‑risk sectors, these may change over time and in line with business strategy, but for example currently includes SCC05 NBFI Category 3 to 7 clients with a high focus on MSB/TPPs and Digital Assets & Currencies. As part of the wider Financial Crime team, the role‑holder is also expected to contribute to the broader team deliverables as needed. What you can expect to be doing Provide balanced, constructive and objective advice to 1st line in relation to financial crime high risk client matters, including challenging any decisions or practices that limit our ability to effectively manage the financial crime risk. Review complex client cases, including making decisions on behalf of the Director of Client Advisory, within agreed levels of delegated authority, or escalating as needed. Ensure the High‑Risk Sectors team upskill and become SMEs in these client types, including how these types of client operate, the FC risks associated to them, FC policy requirements and the regulatory environment. Attend relevant committees/Forums such as the HINV FinTech Forum, CBRRCSC as required. Engagement in the Client Selection and Exit Management process, as needed. Provide advice and oversee reviews of the 1LOD’s CDD & EDD work, escalating as needed. Lead reviews of relevant parts of FC Policies, procedures and regulatory developments. Represent the Client Advisory Director or MLRO in committee and business meetings as needed. The role holder is expected to have the skills and capability to working autonomously with minimal direction on a day‑to‑day basis, but also to recognise when escalation is needed. Engage and collaborate with stakeholders across HINV acting as an advocate for Financial Crime Risk Management and driving control standards and best practices. Engage with HBUK, Group and other internal stakeholder on policies, procedures, risks, issues and remediation, including where HINV are impacted but reliant on other parts of the Group to deliver. Be aware and respond to developments in the external and internal environment to get early sight of emerging risks and changes to the business strategy that would impact the risk profile and work with the business to ensure it remains within appetite. Promote and develop risk awareness and risk management culture in order to ensure that material risks are both evident and effectively managed. Share knowledge and coach more junior members of the team. Requirements Enhanced due diligence for these client types. Experience and in depth understanding of financial crime risks for these specific client types and the wider sectors that HSBC Innovation Banking supports, including but not limited to technology, fintechs, deep tech, digital currencies. In‑depth knowledge of regulatory requirements across Anti‑Money Laundering, Sanctions, Fraud, Anti‑Bribery and Corruption and Tax Evasion and how this applies to client relationships. Strong understanding of the UK’s regulatory expectations (FCA) and international framework (e.g. FATF, Wolfsberg, sanctions, etc). Demonstrable experience providing advice 1LOD teams, including senior stakeholders. Skilled at reviewing and challenging proposed controls, policies, and processes. Ability to input to and influence bank‑wide or HINV owned initiatives and ensure HNV risk are adequately considered. Experience leading, managing or coaching other team members.
