Clinical/Counselling Psychologist Adult Wards This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a multi-disciplinary psychological therapies team which covers both male and female adult acute inpatient wards (23 beds in total) at Potters Bar Clinic. Candidates will be subject to a DBS disclosure. Job responsibilities As a HCPC‑registered Practitioner Psychologist, you will provide specialist psychology assessments and interventions to adult service users with acute mental health needs on the ward. You will also provide a specialist clinical perspective in relation to other service users with whom you might not be directly involved. Your tasks include individual and group interventions, diagnostic and cognitive assessment, MDT working, risk assessment, facilitating staff reflective practice sessions, and designing and delivering training. Work autonomously to provide a specialist psychology service to patients as agreed by the Consultant Psychiatrist, Therapies Lead, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and wider MDT. Undertake specialist assessments. Provide specialist interventions according to formulations based on an appropriate conceptual framework, NICE guidelines, evidence from research, and the wider MDT formulation and interventions. Run therapeutic groups on the ward as agreed. Monitors risk of all patients for whom there is direct contact, ensures acute risk is managed, liaises with MDT and updates the electronic patient record as required. Ensures all clinical work is adequately recorded in the electronic patient record. Attend ward rounds, case conferences, CPAs and provide reports in advance for these in accordance with local procedures. Prepare clinical reports (e.g. assessment reports, discharge summaries). Liaise with internal and external colleagues as required. Facilitate reflective practice sessions for the ward‑based staff (7:30 am and 7:30 pm sessions). Qualifications BPS recognised psychology degrees. HCPC registered. Understanding of evidence‑based psychological practice. Experience of applying psychological knowledge to a psychiatric setting. Experience in inpatient work (preferable but not essential). Location and working details 190 Barnet Road, Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, EN6 2SE.
